Oh here’s an anecdote, I have somewhat been in this scenario! I did go to Alaska alone and went on some walks where bears are. I also encountered men alone. I was very happy to never encounter a bear and didn’t have any problems with the men.
my sister had an Alaskan bear story - she came across black bear cubs 😳in Denali? She and her friend backed away slowly bc they couldn’t see the mama bear. They got back to their truck gratefully they didn’t come across mama bear.
Probably man? I've come across plenty of men while hiking and none have attacked me, but I don't know if I would be as lucky with a bear.
I am also not young, pretty, or tiny so that probably helps. Good luck hauling my body out of there without help. I am sure that doesn't make me immune from danger, but I do think my height and weight in particular would be a deterrent.
I think the meaning behind this question becomes more clear when you twist it to say would you rather come across a bear or a woman. Nobody is answering woman.
Yes. This is the follow up to the question. While psycho women do exist, most wouldn't hesitate to answer woman, but man vs bear leads down all sorts of analytical pathways.
No one would question if I was really attacked by a bear or put the best in the supreme court

Same, girl, same. This perfectly articulates how I’ve always calculated dangers to me. If a dude wanted to heft me out, he’s going to have to spend some time in the gym before even thinking about it.

The shear number of red-pill men who are loosing their minds and shouting forcibly and repeatedly that women are “wrong” and “crazy” or both is disturbing.
Never pausing to consider WHY. Or really that women have a very different experience than men in the world. A real lack of any shred of empathy or curiosity at all.

I know if be no match for a man. I can't run fast, and most could easily pick me up and subdue me. If I yelled at them, they'd probably just become even more enraged.
At least I know most black bears aren't really interested in me (maybe my food which I'd gladly leave for them) and would likely just amble off. I'm not likely to see any other kind. I'm certainly not worried about the small Asian bears discuss, not that I've ever seen them in the wild.
But as i said the point isn't really man vs bear in isolation. It's more about how our thinking is different if it's man/bear vs woman/bear.
Also if the man has bad intentions and is trying to bag a victim in the woods, he's going to have a knife, gun, etc. Maybe chloroform, a tarp, duct tape, a gd wheelbarrow to cart you to his murder shed.
A bear might want to eat me but it probably doesn't want to wear my skin.
I’ve seen this on my other women’s board. I get the point but… having been in the woods a LOT in my life, coming across a man makes me a little nervous. But most men are okay. Coming across a bear would freak me the fuck out.

I’d pick bear. The bear may or may not want something from me, but likely not. We could easily coexist calmly.
However, if I encounter a man or woman, I have no idea what they want. Even if it’s friendly intent, they’ll likely want to talk, and I just really don’t want that. At all.

"Well howdy there! How are you? Isn't this weather beautiful?" Please feed me to a bear.
There’s not enough information here. It depends on what kind of bear. A black bear, sure I love those guys. A grizzly bear, amazing but no I don’t want to have a close encounter with him. A polar bear, nope. A mama black bear with cubs…. At a distance ok , close no thank you.

“You’d be so pretty if you smiled more!” would send me directly into a hungry bear’s clutches.

There have been less than 200 fatal bear attacks in North America in the last 200+ years. Let's just say that the number of women raped and murdered by a strange man is significantly higher than that. I'll take my chances with the bear.
