My nails aren't strong to begin with and since I've started working out and running halfs, my toe nails are taking a serious beating. As in, on one nail in particular it is becoming a given that I'll lose it after a race and my toe nails tend to crack horizontally close to the cuticle - ouch!
Any advice?
PS: In normal shoes I wear a 7.5; my running shoes are 8.5.

In addition to going up a size in shoes I need a brand that has a roomier toe box. Took a few tries to find a shoe that lets me keep most of my toenails.

Seems the consensus is keep them really short. I guess I can use that to justify regular pedicures since I can't seem to keep them short enough on my own. Thanks ladies!
Yep, another one here for keeping them short. The only time I ever lost a toenail was when one nail was slightly too long. I did a 10 mile tempo run and it kept hitting the front of my shoe. This caused a blister under my toenail and a loss of the whole nail.

I just keep them short and buy shoes about 1 size up. I've never lost a toenail in my 20 yeears of running experience (dropping a can on my big toe once is another story).
