I was out of the office until about 5:30 today. I was planning to resign tomorrow but decided to run back and type out my letter today. Other Guy (meaning not Sociopath) was in a meeting, and I didn't want to wait around, so I just took it to Sociopath's office.
Me: Well, I wanted to wait until you and Other Guy were together, but I don't know when he'll be done. I want to let you know I'm resigning. Sociopath: OK. That's...I...we were having some problems. Me: I got a job in Washington D.C. Sociopath: Good for you....why did you ask off for days in October? Me: Because I just got the position today, and I thought I was still going to be here. Sociopath: OK. Do you have a copy of this [my letter] for Other Guy? Me: No, just the one. Sociopath: OK, go put it on his desk.
Before he said "we were having some problems," I could tell that he was about to say that he was expecting this. So yeah, I'm pretty sure they were trying to push me out, and this just solidifies my decision.
wahoo! It sucks that they were trying to push you out (not sure of the back story) but it sucks when you feel like you are no wanted at your workplace! Good Luck with your new job!
While my last job did not compete with yours, I was pretty miserable and my resignation was also totally anticlimactic. Congratulations! It will take some time to sink in, but when you realize you don't have to deal with these f*ckers ever again, it will feel so amazing.
