I'm seeing it more and more lately and I kind of like it. I'm wondering though if this is just a short-lived trend and when we go to sell our house, I'll be kicking myself for having to repaint the doors white again.

I don't really care for the look. If you were going to do it, I would think you need high ceilings and a lot of natural light. My house would look like a cave if I painted all the doors black.
I don't think they'd look too dark in our house, just because we have a very open floor plan with high ceilings and lots of large windows. I didn't think about the dust/pet hair though. That might just be the deciding factor in not painting them.
This is actually a trend I really like. I think it looks better on an upgraded door instead of a standard 6 panel door. As for pet hair, it would be a plus for me considering we have a black lab.

I love the look. I grew up with kind of dark wood doors in a dark hall, so that part doesn't bother me.
I was looking at some photos online over the weekend and saw a lot of really stunning spaces with either black doors or black door frames....or both. Some homes were very traditional and it was a very classic look. It seemed to work with all different styles as well, but the style of door makes a difference.

I really like the look, and have been considering painting the doors in my upstairs hallway black. I think it would look really nice with my gray hallway, but I'm still not sure about it.

This sort of brings up another point... where do you stop with painting them? I mean, would you do the entire house? Both sides of every door (except the front door as I see that as the exception. Plus I just painted our front door from black to bright red)? Would you do bedroom closet doors as well? So many things to consider.

I obviously like it because it is what we are doing! Ha! I think a straight-up black is hard. We are going a very very dark gray-brown. I forget the color name.

I would love to know the name bunny. Hint hint. Are you going to do the closet doors the same?

Ben Moore midnight summer. I just looked.
We are doing all the doors & trim downstairs, but upstairs is more complicated and we haven't decided. My DH likes the already white door trim & windows. We might just do the room entry doors and trim. A little weird, but we will rethink it when it's time to actually make a decision.

I think we'll probably do it.
Our house has lots of natural light and thick white trim. The paint is a neutral greige that's not muddy or light sucking.
They need painting anyway and eventually, they'll get upgraded but I think since I like the look of black interior doors we'll paint them first and then if we get sick of that, that'll be when we upgrade.
I'm pretty openminded when it comes to paint because it can always be changed.
I think we're going to do this in our new house. Several of the doors need painting anyway and we both like the look.
So do you paint both sides of the door then? Our front door is black on the outside and white on the inside, I'm not sure what the "right" way to do it is.

I painted the doors in my upstairs hallway navy blue (because black isn't an accent color in my house) and kept the trim white. It looks great and even people who don't usually comment on decor stuff have noticed and liked it. My hall is small and not particularly well lit and I like the visual interest that the added color makes. Before is was like just come up the stairs see 5 plain white doors.
I painted the entry side of the doors and kept the other side white. I also kept closet doors white. The bathroom has blue in the shower curtain and a lot of white tile, so I decided to paint both sides of the bathroom door the blue.

I painted both sides of all the interior doors. I still need to get around to painting the inside of the front door black.
