We have this party in San Antonio on Saturday. It's a late afternoon into nighttime barbecue, and will be smart casual I suppose. Nigel is going to wear an orange and blue hawaiian shirt with navy chinos.
I am still stuck in sneakers, which look like shite with anything remotely cute or dressy. I am not loving any options at home. I can get to a Macy's, an Ann Taylor, a Banana or Club Monaco this week (not enough time to order online), however it is going to be 100 degrees there and I'm guessing most of the summer stuff is gone, even perhaps from the clearance racks at this point.
To this day I have shied from the maxi skirt/dress because I am short, 5'4" and short waisted, BUT, I realized it will kind of cover up my sneakers...
Can you help with actual suggestions for clothes or even with silhouettes? This is going to be a well-dressed crowd and I don't want to look like a total dork.
Brown Nike running shoes with a blue swish. I could conceivably buy other sneakers as well. I was looking at Keen's ad a Zappos ad for Keens on my facebook and they're open and sneaker-like.
Here's the thing about maxis: they keep all the heat in there and can actually be really hot. It could work looks-wise, though. Long shorts and a cute top could be an option. I would probably try to make a shorter dress work. Are keds-like shoes too unsupportive?

Any chance you can get to an Old Navy? They have some relatively inexpensive shirt dresses that you can pair with your own belt and jewelry and then pair with the sneakers. I particularly liked the chambray and the light khaki one to go with your shoes you described.

Oh, if you have the linen pants, they also have a cute chambray shirt. You can add a cami underneath if you need (I can't remember if you're large busted or not, but I am and sometimes have issue with button-ups from certain stores).
Because you are going to be sitting there all night hating the maxi dress, tugging at it, thinking it looks like shit. Even if it doesn't. Trust me, I'm a miss cleo here
Okay. How bout a compromise. Hit up tory burch for a tunic type top, wear the linen pants. Carry a cane. Hahah jk

Yeah, the utilitarian stuff is big, so I would imagine you can find some chambray at any of those stores (except Club Monaco - but you'd find a cute white or black jacket to pair with the pants!). Good luck!

angelaa you're so right. Plus my thighs rub together and it's going to be so hot.
Maybe I will just go with what's in my closet (linen pants, chambray shirt) and get a new belt and some jewelry. I'm so bored of these pants but no on there has seen them.
TJ Maxx and Marshalls still had summer shoes in the clearance section last week. Also, Old Navy has their fall shorts line and some breezy shirts. The shorts are on sale for 15 dollars this week. Also as for dresses there were a few nice ones this weekend at ON.
Wear your black walking boot. Then you can dress however you want, wear whatever other shoe you want, no one will bat an eye, you'll get to sit down even if it's standing room only. so much win!

You're so right, lol!! I should totally wear it through the airport.
