Instead of spending extra money on all the "gluten free foods" I just keep it simple and natural. I don't eat many processed foods, this right away easily elimits most hidden gluten. We usually have a baked potato or sweet potatoes as our "starch" for a side, if I have any at all. There's a million things you can do with a potato, and you can get a 10lb bag for $3! If you absolutely love pastas, like others have said, rice noodles. It's really not too complicated, you just have to know what gluten is, and read the labels. Pinterest is a great way to find new gluten free recipes as well. Since it's become "trendy" too, a lot of restraunts carry gluten free on their menu, even pizzas.
Ok, I've read the other responses now, and totally agree with those who said just stick to a naturally gluten free diet rather than jump to a bunch of substitutes. We've definitely taken the easy way out in some things because we've got to have similar snacks/meals for DS as what kids around him eat. And, there are some good tasting alternatives (which has surprised me). But, just focusing on what unprocessed foods your H can eat is the best way to go. I love all of the links/resources PPs mentioned. I've bookmarked this thread so that I can keep all of those. Good luck to you and your H!
