Yes, AH nailed it--nothing wrong with enjoying Blue Moon, Shock Top, etc., but do not call them microbrews. They're produced by the biggest breweries in the U.S. Sam Adams would be considered a microbrew before them.
I judge smokers who throw their cigarette butts out their car windows onto the street. I immediately assume they are assholes in every other part of their life too.
I also judge people who ride bicycles who don't stop for stop signs. If you want to be treated like any other vehicle on the road, you have to stop too, not just look around and coast on through.
I judge comments people make about bicycles not stopping enough. I'm looking out the window right now and 99% of cars are rolling the stop sign at at least 5-10mph. If a bicyclist was only going at 10 mph in the first place and coasts up to the sign and can clearly see (which of course they can see much better than in a car), if they continue through it's the SAME THING. Obviously if there are other vehicles approaching or it's not their turn then not stopping would be asshole and dangerous.
I just don't understand why people make such a big deal about "the rules" when car drivers do the same things and cars can cause so much more damage.
I judge people who smoke right outside the damn door in front of stores. I know this isn't a flameful opinion, it just keeps happening lately. I don't want to walk through a cloud of smoke (especially if I have a child with me) to walk into the grocery store.

If I had a dollar for every time I almost got hit by a bike that was going through full speed through a red light while I was legally crossing the street at a crosswalk, I could quit my day job.
Drivers may stop a few feet into the crosswalk, or maybe they go through the light right after it turns red, but I don't often see cars speeding through 10, 20, 30 seconds after the light changed to red. I see bikers doing that like 30 times a day.
I'm afraid to ask--what is wrong with a Bacardi/Coke?
I feel like it is one of those kinds of drinks you order when you don't know anything about cocktails and you don't know what you like. And that's fine depending on your age and how much you care about a good cocktail... when I was in college and just wanted to get drunk it was a staple on my bar rotation that also included vodka cranberry and gin and tonic. But learning about good cocktails is really not that hard, especially if you focus on the typical "classic" cocktails--manhattan, old fashioned, martini, tom collins, sidecar for example. A lot of drinks, especially at bars that employ mixologists and have rotating menus of drinks you've never heard of, are just plays on the basic ingredients of the basic classics.
I just feel like it's not that difficult to learn about what's out there and how a good cocktail is made so you can drink something you REALLY enjoy. A rum and coke is just not as sophisticated to me as a manhattan, and it will never taste as good or hit the spot quite right.
This probably makes me sound like a snob, and I guess I am one, but I get so much more pleasure out of drinking one really well made cocktail than a college bar or tailgate type drink. It is like a different world. It's not about the buzz but about the incredible and complex mix of flavors. It's like the difference between a gourmet meal and McDonald's.
I think you should drink what you like but I will side eye someone who comes to me to learn about cocktails and then orders a college bar drink.
There a chick strolling through the airport in a short shirt and tights on Tues. The tights weren't even opaque. I felt really old having to stop myself from yelling "Put some damn clothes on".
Were you by chance at JFK? Because I think I saw the exact same chick at the airport Tuesday.

Like I said, if the intersection isn't clear it's dangerous and asshole of them to go through. I was talking about stop signs too and not lights. It's not that I think it's okay for bikers to do whatever they want, it's just there there seems to be a misplaced rage for bikers not behaving perfectly at all times.
I know someone can be seriously injured or killed by being hit by a bicyclist, but everyone that I know who's been hospitalized or killed was hit by a car, not a bike. There are bigger issues with traffic to worry about first.
Before reading the thread, I'm going to say that I judge spelling/grammar word usage. If your post is riddled with errors, I'm going to quit reading it. Sorry.
I'm sure I'll agree with many posts as I read the replies!
Microbrews are a fad? So what, one day people are going to wake up and say, "Hey! Let's all go back to drinking shitty beer!"
I fucking hope not.
I actually don't mean the beers themselves, I mean the obsession with them. I am hoping there comes a day when people will buy/order their beer and then stop talking about them. :-(
Or people who don't think to try out the name with "Dr./Judge/President" in front of it. I doubt people would vote for a Senator Crymsyn Kal-El Smith.
I judge people who say a name fails this test because it is "too ethnic." Thank the freaking heavens for President Barack Obama. Hopefully that has resulted in far less people thinking an "ethnic" name doesn't sound professional.
That shouldn't be flameful thought on this board, but that's all I've got right now.
I think craft beer, micro and nanobrews, and homebrewing are a giant fad and I will be relieved when it is over.
Actually, you have it backward. Pre-prohibition, the U.S. had hundreds of craft breweries. Prohibition put most out of business, and the ones who could afford to come back on line afterward were the ones with more money, which ended up being the German-owned ones that are still the big players today (Busch, Budweiser, Anheuser, etc.). IIRC, we've only recently rebounded to the number of independent breweries in the U.S. as existed at the turn of the twentieth century.

I actually drink Jack/Coke more often than not or Jameson if they have it. I like a good cocktail, but the problem is that you have to frequent nicer places because the consistency isn't that great for a good cocktail. I don't like margaritas or drinks like that unless I'm sitting on a patio in the warm sun. Then a good Mai Tai is still better
I'll add to the drink judging. There is NO good wine that can be purchased for under $8. And I believe anyone who thinks there is just hasn't actually had good wine.
Ooh, speaking of 90 min... DFH put out a special version aged in maple syrup barrels (or similar... maple syrup was involved). It was a really limited run and a friend scored two bottles and shared it with H and me. Best beer I've had in a long time, hands down. Just looked it up; it's called 75 Minute IPA: www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/occasional-rarities/75-minute-ipa.htm
The 75 Minute IPA is so good! We found some bottles recently at a liquor store and cleaned them out.

You don't think they're a trend though? They're definitely WAY more popular than they were a few years ago. Kind of like cocktails... It isn't like cocktails were invented recently, but 10 years ago I don't think the word "mixologist" existed, and fancy cocktail lounges definitely are more of a fad here now than they were 5 years ago (I think they kind of took over as the craft beer obsession was losing its newness).
Not saying that all of a sudden people are going to start being like "This is so over -- I'm going back to Bud Heavy because Dogfish Head is passe" -- but I do think craft beer and cocktails (and local food sourcing, and cupcakes, and doughnuts, and hamburgers, and fried pizza, and a whole host of other good things) are trends that have had their *moment* at some time over the past 10 years.

Sorry, you posted before I posted my other reply. I couldn't care less how many breweries and beers exist. I was more referring to the obsession over them and the people who cannot STFU about them. I get it, you (as in the generic you, not you or anyone on this board) wouldn't dare drink a mass-produced domestic lager ever again.

I judge people who are obsessed with Starbucks. It seems like such a... bland thing to be obsessed with.
Gangham Style is the worst. People dancing to it is even worstest.
I'm happy though that I didn't even know that there was a dance that went along to it until a table of 4 people sprang up to dance to it at a bbq place I was at two weeks ago. Ignorance is indeed bliss.
This is more random than flameful, I rented The Five Year Engagement. It's from the people who made Bridesmaids. I hated Bridesmaids. This movie is equally unfunny. I feel like there's something wrong with me that I find these movies so completely lame. I mean, clearly someone likes these movies. But I don't get it.

Don't you watch the Today Show?
NOT AS MUCH ANYMORE. In no small part because they tried so hard to make "Call Me Maybe" happen (which it did, to be fair). I try to ignore any "viral" video/song/whatever they try to push on me.

Yes. I agree with this 100% and you said it much better than I did.

My go-to drink in a place where I don't think they'll mix great cocktails has become whiskey and ginger beer (or ginger ale, if ginger beer isn't available) with a twist of lime. It's a simple as making a whiskey & coke, but tastes way better IMO.
