DH is having 4 coworkers over for dinner tonight and I need to get started on getting things together. Help me! I'm serving Ina Garten's chicken chili (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/chicken-chili-recipe/index.html) what drinks should I serve with it? What dessert? Appetizer?
Serve some kind of cornbready thing with it. Jalapeño cornbread or honey cornbread...and for apps, I'd go with southwestern/mexican so like, guac and chips, mexican egg rolls like these (sans chicken) www.barbarabakes.com/2011/03/baked-southwestern-egg-rolls/

Oh and for drinkies I am a fan of margs on the rocks, or you can do a crisp white wine to offset the richness of the beans and because there is chicken in the chilli and not beef.
You should have all the toppings in little bowls to serve over the chilli too, like sour cream (or I actually use Greek yogurt), scallions, cheddar cheese, etc
I am at work, but tonight is DH's bday. I am making dinner for him (for like the 3rd time in 9 yrs - I don't cook) so wish me luck. I am also skeptical of food brought in at work. I've seen attorney pick at things or put their hands all over the food...Ew.

I don't post a ton, but I'm around for part of the day. I need to sleep at some point, I work tonight. I've been mostly lurking on and off because I don't feel like I have a whole lot to contribute these days.
Also, I've been feeling like crap the last week and I am so tired of people saying, "It's probably morning sickness" or "are you pregnant?". No, assholes, I am not. I am just sick. Women can just be sick without being pregnant. Shut it. Thank you.

Haha if by expert you mean I have done a shitton of tastings and enjoyed every bit of it then yes! lol
Nah, I'm no expert. I just cook A LOT and research this crap because I host parties a lot. And flavor pairings is something that matters to me, because I have control issues! haha I like things to blend well.
And dark beer usually has like a rich/caramel/even coffee/creaminess that I think goes well with the heartiness and spice of chill. Yum!

At a cursory glance, it IS surprisingly light for a chilli recipe...barely any smoke/heat to it. A dark beer might actually NOT be best! If they are beer people, not wine, lemme think. My FAV Belgian beer is the tripel karmeliet. It's crisp, slightly sweet, not acidic...kind of perfect with this dish. Otherwise a pinot grigio if they'll drink it!
I love potlucks as long as people label things clearly for vegetarians. I figure that nobody had as questionable food sanitation practices as my mom! If I survived childhood, I must have an iron stomach. I literally followed her around with Lysol wipes in my kitchen on Thanksgiving, lol.
I've been feeling down this week so less posting. I'm sick with a cold, my dog is sick with too many elderly/handicapped dog complications and DH and I are both sleep deprived from carrying for him. On the plus side, I only have a little more than a week left of work before winter break vacation!
If I get back to you in a couple hours is that too late?? I have to go teach a class in like 5 mins! But I'm happy to help!
It may be. I'm running to the store now. I'm thinking this is more like a stew and I'm going to get a baguette from Panera (mmmm) to go with it. Dessert is going to be hot buttered rum pecans with vanilla ice cream.
Hey nama I'm back. Did you see my post about the tripel karmeliet beer?? Oddly, you can purchase it at a Cost Plus World Market if any of those are near you.
Dessert sounds great! I was going to suggest something with vanilla, caramel, and cinnamon...that kind of covers it!
My Internet hasn't been working properly! I've had 2 days with no GP.
I have a MIL & a SIL that ask if I'm pregnant every time I am sick. It drives me crazy!
I also have been kinda avoiding posting because if I post something on here it seems more real. (Weird but so true)
DH an I have made the decision to put TTC on hold for a few months. A few unexpected expenses have come up and we have decided that we wanted to take care of them before continuing TTC. As I am currently in the 2WW I am hoping this was our month. (Then it would make this decision easier, lol)
If we were to get pregnant this cycle we would be ok. We would just be more comfortable coming up with this money first.
