I switched after moving across country. I love what I am doing, but it is only a part-time job which is a real bummer in such an expensive city. I'm hoping there will be some movement after the new year. At least I know now that I really like working in public policy, even though there are some frustrating aspects, those frustrations are not coming from the work, but rather the inability to do more sometimes. To tide me over on the money from I got another PT job at a shoe store...it's a typical retail job, but the people are really friendly and I intend on revamping my shoe closet in the meantime with my discount!
And SLC has the best grid system of streets...and it extends to all the suburbs. No GPS needed when you're in Utah!
Thanks ladies! I am looking and hope I will figure something out before things get really bad with my group. If anything, I can at least try and go to a different part of the university after 6 mos (my Mar deadline). Rumor has it that the healthcare side is where it's at, lol.
ETA: If my other plans don't work out and I am still in this setting by summer, I'm heading back to school to get my free MBA. DH will also join me since one perk is free degree for a spouse too.
I started a new job in Jan. 2012. I do like it, but the hours do not work well with my school schedule. It is a before and after school program, so the hours are 7-8:30 and 3-6. With my schedule this semester, I would not be able to work the evening shift on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday, which would put me at 14 hours a week. Better than nothing, but I would like to have a job with more hours because we need to be bringing in more money.

Love my new job. I do miss my old CWs, but I still hang out with several of them. I really like WFH, I get to travel, and what I'm doing now is just far more interesting as well as being better paid.
We moved and it's been good and bad, as far as jobs are concerned.
I make $25k less, and while we moved from HCOL to MCOL, I don't think that makes up for it. My work is also much less interesting, and I miss my old company.
However, DH's new job is awesome, he now has a solid career (something I didn't have at my previous job, anyway, and I don't know that I ever will, really) and makes twice what he made in our previous state. He feels intellectually stimulated and comes home excited with stories to share every night. I love that.
So the pros of his new job outweigh the cons of mine, I guess.
No, it is not. There are diagonal streets running all through this joint. Streets randomly change names.
Example: you're on 7th St NW, and it just changes into Geogia Ave NW. A little bit later, 7th St NW REAPPEARS, but now it's 2 blocks east of Georgia Ave NW. WTF is that about? Not to mention all the streets that dead end and then start again. And everybody's always, "Oh, the streets are in alphabetical order!" but I'm pretty sure that every 5 blocks there is a street that is out of order.
And don't even get me started on Northern Virginia. I'm pretty sure the intersection of South Glebe Road and West Glebe Road is actually the end of the universe.
Are you walking or driving? Because in DC, I can't drive at all. Not for traffic, but I'll just always end up going the wrong way down a one-way street, or take a wrong turn. But when walking, I think it is the easiest city to navigate. Ever.
I started a new job late last January/early February. It is 100% better than my old job (same company, different department/job duties).
I liked the people in my old department, but I "fit" better with the people in my new one. My opinion here is more respected, I am given more responsibility and freedom to do my work as I choose, my work gets me up and away from my desk on a regular basis (today I'll probably be at my desk less than 2 hours, in my old job I was chained to it), and I'm working in a field that has real potential for career growth. My old job didn't meet any of those, I was micromanaged, and stuck in a huge rut that I had no idea how to get out of.
I guess the only negative about my new job is that I didn't get a raise when I moved and it doesn't look like there will be a promotion available anytime soon. I also work more hours but I honestly hardly notice because I'm busy during that time so it flies by.
I knew I didn't like my old job, but I didn't really understand how miserable and disengaged I was until I moved out of it. I swear I spent half my time at my old job on the Nest and brainstorming how I could go back to school and get a different degree without complete financial ruin. Now I have no intention of going back to school unless it will somehow further my current career path. It's crazy how night and day things are from a year ago.

Either. I usually walk, but I've had to drive a few times. I was walking to go look at an apartment. I was on Harvard Street NW, and then all of a sudden, I was on Columbia St NW, and I had never turned!
Nope, but DH did. He got a 20% raise for switching, but he hates his job. On the plus side, he's out this afternoon going to two interviews with different companies. Both seem to want to get the decision made ASAP, so hopefully we'll know by the end of the year if he'll get to move into something a bit better for him. Fingers crossed it's the one that would give him another 20% on top of his new (current) salary.
I started a new job in August after being unemployed for 27 months. I love it! Love my coworkers, love the location, love what I do... It's been a great opportunity overall.

Took a significant pay cut but I love love love the new job. For the first time I understand people who say they love their job. I really never understood that before.
I started a new job in October with a company that I've ALWAYS wanted to work for. It moved us across the country to a city we've both always wanted to live in.
The job is not going so smoothly now (i've posted about it here a few times). I think my manager is the problem, and I don't know if I can realistically fix it without putting us in a major financial crisis (If i leave within 2 years, I have to pay back my relocation which is upwards of 20k+ and we also have rent here and mortgage for our old place which is still for sale).
I feel a little bit of regret for leaving my old job because I LOVED the people I worked with. The job itself was okay, but the morale was going downhill fast.

I went from SAHM back to work this year, and I am so glad I did! I am so much happier, my son is thriving in daycare, we are able to save a lot to work towards long term goals, and I stay busy while H is deployed. I knew my job would be a great fit when on the first day the owners of the company brought me flowers to welcome me.
Yes I did. I began just after the new year and couldn't be happier. It isn't MM but I took a fairly substantial pay cut when moving. The pros highly outweighed the cons like going from 100% travel to a 10 minute commute, great 401k match, paid maternity leave, amazing work environment and lots of room to grow. Ironically, I just was offered a promotion and will be making around the same as I was before.
