You're at a standard bar - a few varieties of beer, a few varieties of wine, no fancy house specialty cocktail menu, but a standard selection of liquors and mixers.
Just going to have a few drinks or we're at a dive bar? Probably beer (usually Stella or Amstel Light if they have it) Going to be out for a while? Vodka and soda.
I drink more wine than anything else, but don't ever drink wine at standard bars. I save wine for restaurants, wine bars, cocktail lounges that have good wine lists, and the like. Best advice I ever got: never drink wine at a bar with a jukebox.
My default is Hendricks and tonic or Bombay Sapphire and tonic. If they have Campari then I'd do a negroni (equal parts sweet vermouth, gin and Campari).
If I'm drinking beer with a purpose (as in, to drink many beers and get tipsy), I'll usually choose a Blue Moon or Amstel Light.
Mixed drinks, I like a good gin and tonic, dirty martini or Absolut Mandarin and tonic with lime.
Now I'm old, though, and prefer places with high end cocktails and a fancy beer list. That way I can drink just one or two and enjoy it. I kind of miss drinking just to get drunk, but I just can't get into it the way I did only a few years ago.
