Christmas was pretty low-key. I joined a choir last year, so Christmas was a lot of fun doing carols, etc. on Christmas Eve. It was a LONG night because I took DD before I went to sing, so we spent a lot of time in church! We did Parts 1 and 2 of Christmas for her on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This is the first year she gets it, so that part was a blast. She was SO into everything Christmas!
MIL came on the 27th and just left today. Her visits are a mixed blessing. She won't babysit DD (we can't leave the house with DD when she's here), but she'll entertain her while we do stuff around the house. She has some wacky ideas about life in general, which means I generally don't have any meaningful conversations with her. And not talking is SO against my nature. DH always has a master list of stuff to get done, most of which we accomplished while MIL hung out with DD. We did Part 3 of Christmas with all of MIL's gifts, and cooked a "fancy dinner" as DD likes to call it
NYE was sitting on the sofa with DH and MIL watching it all on CNN. I had never seen Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper together hosting it, and it was a brilliant pairing. New year's Day was sitting around and eating leftovers, and me madly trying to finish up the freelance work I got on the 17th. Good times.
Now I'm sitting alone in my quiet, clean kitchen. MIL is on her way home on the train, DH is at work, and DD is at preschool. Ahhhhh

Glad to hear everything went smoothly for your Christmas dinner, Rock! And I am drooling at all that food.
We had a very low-key holiday. We drove out to see my family on Christmas eve, and then my ILs came over for dinner on Christmas day. It was really hard without GMIL there, but I think it probably helped a bit that we broke from the typical routine. My husband's uncle and his girlfriend showed up briefly and didn't stay to eat, which set off my husband and his parents, but I can't fault him. The guy was his mom's primary caretaker, and it had only been a week since she passed. Plus, I'm sure he'd spent more than enough time with all of us at that point.
We went out to dinner on NYE, and I don't know what I ate, but something didn't agree with me. I spent the rest of the night sick as a dog. My husband drank all the wine and passed out at 11:30. I stayed up and watched a Friends marathon and listened to him snore. We ended up having the champagne we bought yesterday, and now Sober January starts today. It's going to be a loooooong month.
Oh! But we did still go to Menton for our Christmas dinner, and it was amazing. We threw caution to the wind and just rolled with the tasting menu. Almost everything was delicious - the only thing I really hated was the sea urchin, but considering I don't like seafood very much, that's not surprising.
Christmas we were down in CT with my family. I helped my mother who is part of the flower guild for her church arrange the flowers on the alter which was fun. Then Christmas eve we went to church and then to family friends' house for dinner. Turns out they had lost power due to a car accident on the main road by them. So, FI ended up cooking the beef tenderloin out on their grill and we were able to cook the rest of the sides on the grill as well. Was a fun time with good friends and we stayed rather toasty by the fire. I also got to see my bff for brunch while I was down there which was fun.
NYE was quiet for me, FI worked NYE and then had to go back and do brunch on NY's day. I ended up staying home and was in bed by 11:30!
