Can I send anything other than letters while my nephew is in bootcamp (navy)? He wrote us on Christmas day, saying he had been there 2 weeks. Can I send pictures? Thumb drive with pics?Anything else? Any great ideas or do I have to wait til he is done? He is really homesick and (of course) is saying how hard it is! Any responses are greatly appreciated!

I don't know how different it is for Navy, but when H was at bootcamp (Army), we could only send letters, up to 5 pictures, and only needed items such as cough drops, deodorant, and baby powder.
Best thing for H was just a lot of letters from home and talking about the things planned for when he got out so he had things to look forward to
When my H went through it was just letters, and pictures were acceptable, but he didn't want any since their space to store things is very limited. Just keep your letters positive, and understand that they don't always have a lot of time to write. I know that they are always really happy to get mail, so don't worry too much about it
Letters and cards are good. If there is an interesting newspaper or magazine article you can clip out, you can send that as well. No food, toys, games.

When I was in Army BCT, I lived for letters. I loved letters that included things going on at home, news around town and article clippings. We were pretty cut off from the outside world, so it was nice to know what was going on out there. Even if you just send a little note with words of encouragement once a week or every few days, they will make his day. Mail call with out hearing your name called is so glum.

I still have all my letters and cards saved in a box.

I do too. I have a bunch of GT cards and other things, too. I figured they would be fun to go through with my kids or grand kids one day.

If you include things like football and basketball scores or other information...he will LOVE you.
I work with basic trainees. This is probably one of the most popular questions they ask me-and information they are most thankful and excited to receive!
