I went to a new dentist for an emergency visit because I was having pain when chewing. He took an x-ray and sent me right to a specialist. They were able to get me in today for an exam and, once I was there, they were able to start the procedure today. I'm glad I'm getting this taken care of. However now my tooth is aching really badly. Aspirin isn't touching the pain. Time to try something else!
Vicodin doesn't seem to do a damn thing for me, so I doubt a different opioid would be much better. I've done the 800mg dose of ibuprofen many times. I also have backup acetaminophen and aspirin in case 800mg ibuprofen alone doesn't do it.
It's been about 20-ish minutes since I took all 4 and I'm already feeling some relief. Thank you for recommending this fuss!
I've filled my vicodin prescriptions after dental work, but always just took advil. lolol.
And dixie, once you get the root canal ime it's just instantly all better. Well, when you can feel your face after the novocaine wears off. They remove the nerve and a little of the surrounding tissue/bone to get rid of any infection, so any pain you feel from that area after the fact is either psychosomatic or a sinus infection.
Is it hurting because of the root canal or because of whatever is the cause of you needing the root canal?
I have to have my first RC next week and I'm terrified.
I just answered in your thread. It's hurting because of the abscess at the base of the tooth root pressing against nerve(s). RC's really aren't bad at all, the only time I ever took a pain killer after one before this was the first one I ever got. It never hurt afterwards. The problem this time is an active infection. You will feel so much better afterwards.
One nice thing they do is use a dental dam (that's what I call it) to isolate the tooth, which I like because when they're drilling you don't have any pieces flying around your mouth, they all stay on the rubber. Also, once you relax it's not bad. You'll be numb, just listen to music to try to distract yourself from the noise.
I've never even filled a prescription for vicodin or percoset or anything like that following dental work.
You can tell my addictive personality in this response.
WHY THE FUCK WOULDN'T YOU FILL A SCRIPT FOR THOSE WONDER DRUGS?!?!?!?!?!
Vicodin sucks. I took one and it didn't seem to help. I took two and had the worst night of my life. I felt pinned to the bed and like I didn't sleep at all. MH became semi-violent on vicodin in HS. He was hilarious when he took percoset, though.
