Bunnysmom, have fun on your trip! Glad they will take your money - I would have been shocked had they not, but understand how you would want to be 100% sure given you are traveling to another country.
This post shows how far away from cash we have moved as a society. We wanted you to use anything BUT use cash, interesting.

I read your post wrong and was going to tell you that paying in cash in Argentina would actually be better because it almost always gets you a discount...but you probably know that
I'm glad it worked out, and it sounds like it's almost better that you have to pay the hotel up front because it means you won't have to carry around so much cash during your trip! Have a great trip.
ohh this is easy since I work in accounting in a hotel in Chicago. In my hotel (5 star in the heart of the loop) your credit card will authorized for you stay at check in for your stay plus $75. If said card fails you be asked for another form of payment. whether it be an other card, cash, travelers check or a combo, we do not care. so you could give say a 100 in cash and the card. you will not be asked for full payment at check in but you will be asked for a card and/or cash. So you could give you card at check in and pay in cash at check out
DO NOT give a debit card at check in. A debit card is NOT a credit card. A debit card should always be treated like it's cash. If you do give a debit card, make sure you have enough out it to cover your stay and what ever spending you plan on doing besides your hotel stay. The reason being you card will have a hold it for you stay.
I can not tell you money times, I have gotten a call from a guest saying that their account has been over drawn they did have enough to cover their stay. They may have had a 500 stay but charged another 300 to their room and have checks out standing that clear and then they use the debit card to buy lunch or go shopping.

This is helpful and I thank you but apparently this is not the case at the hotel I'm staying at. They told me that if I pay in cash, my credit card won't be accepted for a deposit and that instead I have to pay $40 per night (it will be a total of around $700 in my case) in cash in addition to my stay. Both will be asked at the moment of check in. It sucks having to pay that much in a deposit but I guess that's the policy when paying in cash and I have to follow it. I just hope that I don't encounter complications when checking out to collect back the money!

You shouldn't have any problems. At both of the hotels I worked at, there was a log we had to keep and the agent and guest had to sign how much they put down and when they checked in/out. We kept it in a sealed envelope with a print out of your information stapled to it and locked it in a safe.

You should be fine! Have a good trip!
You certainly ease my worries then. Thank you very much!
