MN: I remember those feelings very well. However, what do you have to lose? You stand to gain a lot more than you stand to lose and I think you owe it to yourself to at least try this Much love to you!

Thanks Otter. I have pretty good insurance too, so I really have no excuse.
As for the church thing, I also grew up going to church every sunday, but never really enjoyed it. There were parts I loved (like the candlelight Christmas eve service), but I definitely didn't look forward to going. So once I got to college, I stopped going (except at Christmas and Easter). I didn't go on a regular basis for probably 8 years or so.
When my hubs and I were engaged, his dad passed away from cancer and was very religious (but not preachy type) and DH promised him on his deathbed that he would start going to church. So we found one that we liked and started to attend regularly. That was almost 7 years ago now and although we don't go every week, we still go most of the time. We're not crazy religious, but we do believe that there is some higher power out there.
It's a great church, it's pretty big w/ lots of things going on, and they have different kinds of services to fit peoples wants and needs. There is a chapel service for those who want a more traditional approach, and there is a contemporary service with a band in the auditorium. There's a cafe where you can hang out between services, and it has a really good youth program that goes on missions trips and also helps out in the local community. Plus you can wear whatever you like (within reason, of course!)
I guess my point in this long winded post is that you kind of need to shop around for churches to find what you want. They all aren't bible thumping crazies who won't let you in if you don't have a dress on. There are churces to fit everyone's needs.

Shorty- That's what we've done and have found a church with a great fellowship, tons of programs to be involved in for all ages, and you leave the Sunday service feeling better about life. I think that's how it should be- you shouldn't leave feeling guilty or like you're obligated to go. We won't be able to go every Sunday because we go out of town so much, but it's nice to have a "home church" to go to when you can.
I guess I thought it as flameful because I know if I said this out loud to anyone in my family except my dad, we'd be flamed for not believing in the Bible and for going to church to provide structure for our kids instead of just going because we want to worship the Lord and Bible. I think religion is such a personal thing that everyone does it a little differently, and doesn't mean that way is wrong or right.
Huh...I just realized that all of my friends that was basically forced to go to church when they were kids are now stoners.
:Y:
Religion: H and I were both raised in church. I went every Sunday and any service inbetween. H didn't go as often. His beliefs are similar to yours, Missus.
I also confess that I want to just rent for the next couple of years. H wants so badly to live in the country, but having to build a house is becoming such a huge headache and we haven't even gotten into the actual building part.

You can also find skorts at places that sell clothes for various sports (Dick's, athleta.com). I have a couple skorts, mainly because I like to bike in the spring and summer and am not all that fond of shorts. Skorts make flashing people much less likely.
