Dh and I went for a sonogram today because I had spotted for 2 days. I am only 6 weeks and 5 days. When we arrived the US tech found the little peanut right away. She also did a vaginal one as well and told me she would be right back and the doc would speak with us. As soon as the doctor came in she stuck the wand back in and said see there's one… DH and my eyes locked and then she said see there's a second one.
I was immediately shocked but the real shock came when she told me they were mono/mono twins. They share the same placenta and the same amniotic sack. They are definitely identical. This is extremely rare and only happens to 1% of twins. She also told me about the chance of miscarriage but the real worry is as they grow they can become entangled. I am so worried and am going for a high-risk US in about a week. Wish me luck!

btw wanted to add that a friend just had twins and she was high risk, but she got to travel in her second tri and didn't need full rest until waaaay at the end. It won't be too bad!

Congrats! I was super anxious about the twin thing (I am a twin, there are twins in every generation of my family) and apparantly the older you are, the higher the chance of twins! I was kinda bummed when I found out there was only one!
H&H 9 months, you will do great! PS my mom said the infant stage was slightly more difficult, but the terrible two's and beyond were easier since we entertained each other rather that going off alone!
Thank you all. I will be seeing an MFM next week. I am now reading that it is likely to find a membrane between the two after 12 weeks so I am hoping for that since I know nothing about twin pregnancies.
