I don't understand why you want equal amounts. H is older and therefore has been working longer. Not to mention his salary has always been ~2x mine... so of course he will have more. Doesn't mean he should slow. It just means I should try and increase where possible.
ETA: I should say we contribute the same percentage, his is just a higher dollar amount because of our salary differences.

Both you and choco have mentioned that because your husbands earn more than you, they'll have more money in their retirement accounts... But I don't understand why? Couldn't you both contribute equally even though you have unequal paychecks?
My husband but he's actually been able to contribute more than I have because he's always gotten an employee match and I didn't have one until 2 years ago, so even though I outearn him he's historically been able to put more away.

I could contribute a higher percentage, and hope to, but the match definitely plays into it. He gets 10% match, I get 4%. So with his contribution plus match he is contributing well over 2x what I am with my contribution plus match.
That being said, I am more eager to get us both maxing compared to getting the same dollar value in the account.
