I don't really think that is necessary. I mean are we ever getting the short end of the stick? We are loud and obnoxious and seem to get our way when needed. I think things are fine the way they are. I just see that somehow becoming more drama.
Yes I realize they don't actually have the IP address. I was just too lazy to type that out. But I thought they wouldn't be able to link usernames and IPs any longer

It's funny that you guys are calling me level headed and responsible. I don't feel like I am either of those things today.
Anyway the admins are us just because we were the two who "built" the board so to speak. The only places where admin powers differ from global mods are with editing the board structure/coding and banning members. I originally wanted global mods to be able to ban members too (which would show them this info) but I think that was voted against when we were setting things up.
I didn't think we would be able to search by IP anymore. However when I went to disable that account I realized that it still shows me when someone has multiple accounts with the same IP or email address, even though I can't actually see the ip/email anymore.
I think you're doing a great job. And I also think the idea (I don't remember whose it was originally) of just banning IP address for seriously offensive trolls is a good one. Then the regular screenname will be banned as well. Maybe that would deter people from being snatchnuggets (or make them smarter about covering their asses).
banning for posting personal information, yes. being offensive? no. who gets to decide what is seriously offensive?

Okay, but are there any global mods who post regularly on ML? I know that wasn't the case back when mods were first established but I haven't tracked the changes. Cjoy is not.
Well Lucy, that's kind of the point of this. The majority wanted the AE outed today. I don't think that's something Ellie will do again. I think as a board we should be able to make that decision hence having a ML admin.
Or, at least a global mod since we account for about half of all the posts on GBCN.

This is off topic but I am starting to think of you as Yoda. You recently said something, maybe prompted by jlm posts, but anyway it was like you were suspicious of things, in a more global fashion around here. Did today's shenanigans have anything to do with that?
Lol. Clearly I'm a very clueless Yoda. I missed the mess today.

Honestly I check out ML plenty, I have just held off from too much snark because it seems like global mods should somewhat stay above the drama. But, I will post more in the future. :drink:
IP banning would be far too complicated at this point, I have a feeling. People could just as easily use IP maskers, and likely have different computers for home and work and etc, not to mention, do phones always use the same IP?
I don't know. When it comes to shit like this, I'm not opposed to outing an AE. I hate AEs anyway, and one created specifically to be mean? Psh. I'm not exactly worried about the privacy of that person's AE. Know what I mean?
This is what I don't get. Wouldn't each sn have multiple IP addresses tied to it? Does it just track the most recent one used? Or the first one used to sign in? I guess I don't know how it all works.
Well, I'm not sure how it works in the new version since it's different and I can't see it. But in the old version, each post was tied to an IP. So yeah, some people had multiple addresses that linked to their account. But I don't think there was ever any way to look at all of the IPs an account had ever used. You could just do 'search for posts by IP' and if someone had posted with more than one account under the same address you would see that there.
now I don't see the ip at all, but when I went to ban the troll account it showed me both usernames (basically asking if I wanted to ban just the troll or all accounts from that ip).
