He does have to have his leg removed this morning I feel horrible about it. He won't get to come home until Monday. I unwrapped his bandage last night and it looked so bad and he just cried and cried because it hurt.

not quite of the same scale, but our dog had a partial tail amputation and lost one of her toes and she was back to her old self in almost no time at all. they are amazingly resilient. hope everything goes okay.
Will you be keeping him inside now? I'd think a tripod cat wouldn't fare well outside...
He will be inside for recovery, and then will probably be indoor outdoor, but we'll see how it all goes. He doesn't want to be inside and hates the two indoor kitties. But, it's the right thing to do, so, we'll make it work somehow.

Poor kitty. I am so sorry to hear about this. But you would be surprised at how well animals can do on three legs! I have seen many a three legged pug in rescue.

I'm sure he'll heal up quickly & be back up & running. I follow this kitty on FB called Anakin & he was born with only 2 front legs, yet he gets around just fine! Animals are a lot better at learning to adapt.

www.facebook.com/LillyTheHeroPitBull This is a dog I follow on facebook (local to Boston) so not quite the same, but the owner is really nice and responsive and would likely have loads of advice to offer regarding 3-legged-pets generally. This dog lost her leg after being hit by a train. The owner and his dog do a lot of community outreach. Good luck going up for your kitty!
Sending good thoughts for a quick recovery. I had a foster kitty who had gotten hit by a car (before I got her) and she had been getting around dragging that leg behind her. The vet attempted to fix it, so she walked around with an ace-bandage peg leg, which seemed to be even more of a pain for her than the broken leg. Then, it turned out that there was too much scar tissue and they had to amputate anyway. Which is just a really long way of saying that cats are super resilient and will adjust. She got around great on three legs.
