Huh? Why not just name Kaylie if that's what they're going to call her? Don't people think about when their kids grow up and have to put their name on a resume?

I was watching Toddlers and Tiaras earlier (don't judge) and there was a girl named Queen. I guess this is similar. I'm just wondering how anyone is ever going to take this poor girl seriously. And I love GoT.
It's not THAT bad. I personally prefer classic names, but parents should name their children whatever they think is best. People get up in arms when "their" name gets too common, like Emma and Jackson. And we also make fun of unique names. There's no winning.
Yeah but that is typical of every fantasy series. Just hope he doesn't die before finishing it.
Fucking seriously.
I do like some of the names from the book, though. I'd never use them unless it was a coincidence (some of the names are really normal names while others are out there).
Hmm. I guess I would have to respectfully disagree! I don't think it's very fair to kids to be saddled with weird and potentially embarrassing names because their parents really liked that show they watched that time.
I think while there may be no winning, there is certainly LOSING when it comes to the baby name game. Certain names are debatable/not everyone's style etc. certain names are simply not acceptable! Like khaleesi. And merceydees. And nikee. Oh let's not forget katniss.
I read the books back when I was in high school (mid 90s). The annoying part is Khaleesi isn't even a name, Daenarys is more appropriate. Gah.
DH made this point when I told him. We both agree that naming for a title is weird (Queen, Princess, Empress, etc), but using a name from the book isn't SO weird.
I need to go watch some GoT now. Or re-read the books for the 6th time...

I actually don't think this one is terrible! I mean, I wouldn't name my kid that and I think the nickname makes no sense but I don't think names that have a story are always career ending, trauma-inducing, bullying targets, ya know? Look at Oprah, or Jensen Ackles, Liv Tyler, Emmy Rossum! Khalessi isn't made up, at least? The spelling is hard but I actually think the pronunciation is pretty.
