Yeah, occasionally they will list it. But not very often. I think the list it guy has a disadvantage because the owners are already attached to their homes and then the love it lady makes it even better for them.
That show drives me fucking nuts. Just once I want there to not be a major remodel fiasco that causes them not to get it done, for the agent not to show them the perfect house (that was OH next door!) and for them to not love love love the remodel. It would otherwise be a great show. As it is I only ever want to watch the last 5 minutes.
Another ? - are the designer & real estate agent a couple? Every now and then their banter back and forth seems flirtacious and couple-ish, but it comes out just awkward.
I can't stand the scripted debates between the love it and list it people. They are so annoying. Not sure I've seen them list it either. I would love to see the remodel not work out every once in a while.
I've seen them list it a number of times, but it always annoys me how the couple moans and groans that the renovations aren't going to give them what they want when they always issue such a low budget and there always seem to be construction issues that get in the way and eat at the budget. The whinging and complaining really gets on my nerves.
I like to watch the last 15 minutes when they see the reveal, the last house from the realtor, and decide.
Yeah. I don't care for the first part of the show. I just watch the last part with the before/after and the decision. I almost ALWAYS want the other house. The first part of the show is useless. Its either:
1) The basement is f'ed, and they need to spend all of the money fixing it 2) No, you can't add another bedroom 3) Your wiring blows 4) We can't take out that wall, its load-bearing
I love seeing the third house they show. Its always gorgeous.
I watch! I too hate the predictability of it. There is always some huge problem that causes them not be able to do all the work and the perfect other house is always over budget. I like the last 15 mins.

I don't think I've ever seen an episode where the homeowners didn't have to make some big decision on what goes and what stays in the remodel because of some huge thing that has to be taken care of (plumbing, electricity, etc.) that they had no idea about. And even if one of the major "must haves" is not done, they still "love it?" I don't understand, because some of the houses that they get shown are everything they are looking for??? Do they pay for all of the renovations?
But I still watch it, just to see the final makeover and if they love it or list it, lol.

Does that make sense?
Isn't he gay? That's what I always thought.
I like the show because it is filmed in my area so I often recognize the houses/neighbourhoods which is fun. (same for property guys).
I feel like of the episodes I have seen, 90% love it.
I would love to see an episode when one member of the couple isn't a complete asshole. Last night ther was an episode where the wife DID NOT want to move and was saying that from the beginning. They gave Hillary their list of renovation needs and of course a tiny budget. She started her work and discovered the plumbing needed a complete overhaul. She told the couple and the husband was such an ass about it. Ok, don't redo their plumbing and then let the whole house fall apart! Also, it is on way too often, in my opinion.

The couples always annoy me. Seems like they never have realistic expectations or are jerks.

Someone posted an article a whole back that was a behind the scenes. Much like House Hunters, it's sort of disillusioning if you love the show. Google for it at your own risk.
I wish HGTV would quit fabricating all of these situations and making it so dramatic. It's all just really bad acting. Remodel the damn house, make a decision, leave out the corny competitive script bullshit.
I too love the concept of the show, but the reality of it is ANNOYING. I too hate that there is always some "shocking" discovery that totally changes what can be done, etc.
I feel like they underestimate their viewers sometimes. Do we really need all this drama? I know I don't. It's a makeover show - we want the before and after!
When it comes time to make a decision, if you look at the camera angles, you'll notice that the conversations are staged. The couple and the realtor/designer are always sort of facing each other, discussing amongst themselves, but the shot goes from the couple speaking - with the realtor/designer in the background, and the realtor/designer talking, with the couple in the background. They basically said, ok couple, now you pretend to discuss while we get comments from the realtor/designer, and then they switch.
Stupid husband, who points these things out and ruins it for me!
I don't understand how the show works though so they spend pots of money remodeling where does the downpayment come from?
Can someone also explain the original Property Brothers to me please? How does renovating two rooms in a hideous house somehow make it perfect like the first house they show them that is always amazing but ridiculously over budget.
I think the point is for them to use the $ from their home sale to put the DP on the dream house. I always wonder if it ever works out like that, or if their new dream house gets snatched up and they're screwed.
I don't think I've seen an entire episode of Property Brothers ever. I love Income Property though.
Yesterday DH got me to watch "Buying Alaska" and it was such a difference. The couple's wish list for a house was basically a separate bedroom for the parents and an indoor bathroom. Their current cabin was all just one room (kitchen, living area, and beds for the parents and 3 kids) and an outhouse. It was actually pretty refreshing to see people who weren't being ridiculously demanding of luxuries.
And yes, I do realize that most Alaskans do live in houses with rooms and indoor plumbing.
