Buying a house - which would you choose?

I would never pick a neighborhood that I thought was unsafe.

I would be torn between the schools in A's district and the commute from B, but I would eventually settle on A because jobs can change. This does have to do with personal preference: I prefer suburban to urban communities, and we're willing to rent longer if it means living in a town with great schools versus living in a town with OK schools.

You mentioned not having a backyard, or sharing it -- are there many public areas where YC can play? Playgrounds nearby?

I'd probably pick B, but only because I would love to cut my commute down to 20 minutes.
