Adopt it! I'm sure he would love that. I already told him a few peeps here liked it, he enjoyed that.
You're right, I shouldn't call it BS, it is cute. His family is going all out for his golden bday, but it's gotten slightly out of hand. Like when your MIL calls before 8 AM...that was a wee bit too early for me.
Aside from the early birthday wake up call from the MIL, it sounds fun and it's adorable that he is so excited for it.
I'm wondering if I should do this for my kids, but their birthdays are 15, 28 and 30. It will be a bummer for my middle kid whose birth date is the 30th (yesterday, actually.) lol!
Anyway, very cute tradition. I hope he enjoys his golden birthday!
Honestly, I would tell them about it and let them get all excited for it. Why else would my 31 year old husband be so excited? B/c his parents clearly told him this when he was younger, he fixated on it, and now it's become genuine excitement. I am definitely going to tell my kids about it (sans the 8 AM calls!)
If your kids are really young, maybe wait until they are 10 or 11 to tell them, since it'll still be 5 years before one of them celebrates it. But it will be something they can look forward to.
I'm surprised the idea of a golden birthday is not a common knowledge thing. I remember being really excited for it when I was 7.
I am thankful for my dh and his kick ass performance at work lately. With everything shitty going on tight now, he has really come into his own on the job he is working on right now. He seems more focused and happier at work than have ever seen him, and his bosses are noticing.
I am thankful for my running group. It has made my life so much better.
I thought of something else to be thankful for, s/o of the recent NYT article about law school applications. I'm thankful I survived 5 years in big law, long enough for me and my DH to pay off 75K each in law school loans. We were so lucky and graduated in 2007 when firms were still hiring. It's so ugly for so many grads out there today.
I got him some really nice Tiffany's cuff links, which he wanted. Plus the Batman trilogy for a silly gift.
I want to get him an ice cream cake, since he doesn't like real cake. Hopefully I can find a grocery store that has Carvel cakes, but I don't know where in NYC has one. There used to be an actual Carvel store near our old apartment downtown, but now there's none, so I'll have to do a little searching.

I would check out the freezer section of a grocery store. We can get carvel cakes from our jewel but does baskin and Robbin still make them? I'd drive to jersey for it if I had to. Amazing ice cream... Enjoy the celebration! im grateful the kids are both taking nap. And that I got our rent check, since our renter was two weeks late for last month. I'm happy that I'm off today and its so cold I have to stay home with the kids. I'm happy that my kids are safe at home with me. I would be happier if dd1 wasn't in such a bad mood though...shes teething her 2nd year molars.
