Why would she write "Pastor" above her signature? Does she think that somehow justifies her comment? It just makes pastors look bad. What a fucking asshole.
I'm also wondering where exactly her divinity degree came from. Pastor my ass. 15 person church? That's not a church, that's a dinner party.
And yet another example of why you try to handle things like an adult first instead of jumping straight to public shaming on sociial media. The waitress should have been fired for uploading it. But that's a lesson learned.

The pastor though is the douche of the story.
What else could the waitress have done, exactly? What would have been "handling things like an adult first"?

Right? If she had approached the "pastor," what would that have done? If she complained to her manager about the customer, would anything have happened? Doubt it. Probably gotten her fired on the spot with no possible recourse, which she at least has now as she did not violate any known, current Applebee's policy.

Yeah, in this case, she's (presumably) left with the signed receipt after the guests have already left. Besides, wasn't it another server at the restaurant who actually uploaded/shared the receipt? Not that I'm saying it was the right thing to do, but servers definitely swap stories/share tales of the douchey customers they've had to serve.
I've waitressed in areas predominantly black and areas predominantly white. These types of Christians are the same in each. The holier-than-thou rolls off of them, their Bible is open while they very obviously and ostentatiously read aloud when you come by. It got to the point where I wasn't shocked when my "tip" was a Chick tract. There's a special one just for "tipping" servers. I was insulted for working on Sundays. Lots of "oh honey, let me tell you about the Lord. You should be at Church on Sunday." Who exactly would be serving them breakfast after church then? Unknown. If you dare to react with anything other than effusive thanks and praising Jesus, you get told to "breathe in God, breathe out self."
This has a lot to do with my bitterness of organized religion. Too many people who used God to justify being cheap jerks.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley
It wasn't the waitress that was stiffed who uploaded it. It was a different waitress. So why did she need to confront the pastor anyway? So in her case, since she was not involved, handling it like an adult would simply be to not upload it. She acted like a child by uploading it and going for public shaming. And it's just common sense in a client based business. Of course she would be fired.
lol, that reminds me of this: If a pope dies, has he been fired or promoted?
Guess it depends on the pope and whether he reconciled himself with God before he died.
As for this pastor, I think it was awful what she did, but we all do assy things sometimes. Unless she has a history of doing assy things (which we don't know for sure) I'll give her the lapse in character and judgment.
But again, she didn't do anything that violates Applebees rules. So there was no base for firing.
Exactly.
She was fired because an ******* woman (who is supposed to be a pastor) complained that her dickish behavior was caught and publicized to the world.
Had the pastor not complained, I don't think anything would have happened to this poor girl. And, yes, I do feel sorry for HER (and for the waitress who got stiffed) and NOT the pastor. The girl who uploaded the pic did everything in her power to keep redditers from releasing the real name of the pastor - until after she was fired. At that point, redditers grabbed their torches and pitchforks.
Ugh. So apparently Applebees is saying she violated company policy by posting the receipt with the customer's name on it.
Now I'm torn. I still think it's bullshit she was fired (the handbook doesn't say she HAS to be fired, just that she COULD be subject to censure), but I also think it was stupid that she didn't black out the signature before posting it. The word "pastor" could still have been there, as well as the message - and that would have gotten the message across without subjecting her to censure.
- When she was hired, the team member was provided the franchisee’s employee hand book which includes their social media policy and states:
“Employees must honor the privacy rights of APPLEBEE’s and its employees by seeking permission before writing about or displaying internal APPLEBEE’S happenings that might be
considered to be a breach of privacy and confidentiality. This shall include, but not be limited to, posting of photographs, video, or audio of APPLEBEE’S employees or its customers,
suppliers, agents or competitors, without first obtaining written approval from the Vice President of Operations. The policy goes on to specify: Employees who violate this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
- As a result of her admission to violating a clear company policy intended to safeguard guests, the team member is no longer employed by the franchisee.
This was not, however, a picture of a customer. I still think this is a very gray area.
I love the passive voice (no longer employed by the franchisee). Shame on you Applebee's - you had discretion here and made the shitty choice. And nice apology pastor lady - Fire Everyone! Yeah, you seem really sorry.
So basically they had discretion whether to fire her or not. And they chose to do so. Well fine- I choose not to patronize Applebee's.
Please don't I am scared after I witness the woman sitting behind me complain that her Appetizer was served to her in a square container when the menu showed a round container.

That bitch called the manager pulled at the menu and was like " look this is round on here" but this is square. Can you believe she was given a NEW appetizer in a round dish. My black ass would have been fired.
Her "congregation" consists of 15 people and the name is something like Swing Low Sweet Tabernacle Church of the Holiness Redeemer Chitlins and Pigfeet Missionary Congregation of the Lord. I bet money it's one of those "churches" where you have to cover your thighs with a prayer cloth so you don't entice the men. *sucks teeth*
Why you have to kill me like that? I got stuff to do today. Can't very well do them when dead!
