As bad as the 100% yellow was, we did inherit really nice fixtures, so thankfully no expense there. I think we spent about $50. $10 to update the light switch and change it from a vertical outlet on bottom and switch on top to a horizontal side by side. The other $40 was misc odds and ends, it all adds up. H just stripped the vent (the gaping hole) and will hopefully put that back in tonight. DD's bday party is this weekend and I wanted to post while it was fresh.
Huge thanks to @juno for the idea of white up the board and then a color on top - never would have thought of that. Paint was leftover SW Alabaster semi gloss for trim, Alabaster flat (we usually use this on ceilings) for the bottom portion of the wall and BM Revere Pewter for the top and cabinet. We may take the cabinet down later, if we feel like risking parts of the ceiling and wall coming down with it.
When we moved in the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom were all yellow, doors and trim included. We've done the kitchen, and now the bathroom. So the yellow you are seeing is on the hallway side. I suppose that's next. I could have done both sides of the door, but there's trim and another door in that hallway that still would have been yellow anyway, and that bathroom was enough project for a loooong time.
What were the previous people thinking with all that yellow. It just glares in picture. And I even have an office that's about as sunshine yellow as one can get..but it shows up much better than that!

OMG Dairy...our kitchen cabinets are even that same shade of yellow. I'm pretty sure they rented a sprayer and went to town on the entire area...they didn't miss an inch. We are leaving them though because I think it's kind of charming. I wish I knew what year they did it, but nothing on the paint can.
That looks amazing! I actually think the cabinet looks fine. I wonder whether you could just dress it up a bit with a different door. It's nice to have that kind of storage in a bathroom. Especially where you have a pedestal sink so no under-sink storage.
I agree.
Even just some well placed trim moulding could take it up a notch without being a big expense.
If we decide to keep the cabinet, I am thinking new doors w/ crown at the ceiling, if that's not possible then a new cabinet that looks built in with crown at the ceiling. We'll see!
If you decide to take it down and put up something else, perhaps something a bit daintier? Taller and shallower? I think it looks top-heavy for the small space and deep enough to allow junk pile-up. I still vote ditch it altogether, but I can't think of that much I'd need to store in a powder room. I think most people like more bathroom stuff than I do.
