So, you should know that mods are no longer able to mod on only their own boards now. They have global powers and they are already being abused.

Apparently, a post on SO was reported for deletion (due to personal info) over the weekend. Cjoy saw that it had been reported and instead of deleting it, she C&Ped it on ML.



eta- Global mod powers have been taken away from everyone who is not a global mod. If you need a delete, ESD and other global mods will see it if you report or you can page/pm smock and ESD.

Yes, I saw this, and I sent a message to Ellie about it. Not only was it something that was reported for deletion, but it was something reported because it reached into not one but two regulars' real lives.

1. I can't believe that someone would repost a thread that had been tagged for deletion, particularly for personal info.

2. We really need global mod rules now. Each board handling its own shit is not going to work anymore.

She has not responded yet. There is a whole thread on CE&P talking about this, and the general consensus there is that this is over the line and that cjoy should be removed as mod. Frankly, I agree.

So, mods (other than global mods) are only supposed to moderate their own boards as before? Fine. I can understand why she didn't delete.

But we need to have mods that can be trusted not to take advantage of the fact that they can now see what has been reported from other boards.

Under those rules, cjoy should have deleted the thread because of "personal information" instead of C&Ping on another board, correct?

Part of the problem is that there isn't a clear rule for modding other boards. We had an entire thread on the mod board about this, and the general consensus, as summed up by Ellie was that spam and personal information could be deleted by anyone, whoever sees it first, but everything else should be left up to the individual board mod.

I guess you could debate if personal info was revealed in the SO thread, and the part that cjoy c&p'd didn't really contain personal info, but it's still a very messy situation.

It didn't contain direct personal info, but it was plenty of personal info for anyone who knows either of the women off-board to have way too much information about the other.

I didn't see the post myself before it was deleted, so I was never clear on if it contained personal information or just a whole lot of details that people were using to guess who it was.

Either way, it should have been deleted.

So with these latest developments I've got the running tally so far at:

OK:
- mods C&Ping personal info from threads reported/deleted for selfsame personal info on another board
- shushing concern for very young victims of sexual abuse
- harassing someone with mental-illness issues over the lack of a tracking number for a SS exchange.

Not OK:
- making fun of someone's objectively bad but newly maternal hair.
- suggesting that do-nothing/disappearing-act Hs are douchey douches.

What did I miss?
