the biggest challenge room for me, the kitchen (from the refrigerator corner)
from the LR door
master bedroom...walk in closet on right, bathroom on left
You can see the hall that goes to the kitchen and is open to the courtyard. This bedroom has view through that hall, and a door to the other hall as well (which I think is where this photo was taken from).
The bathrooms are weird and both look out onto what should be an atrium but is just a weedy, yard with a crummy fence. There is a good sized bedroom off the windowless hall, and there are closets in the hall for mechanicals and laundry.
There is also a backyard on the outside of the fence at the back of the courtyard, behind the master bedroom, but it is just and overgrown mess.
This house was much less expensive than the other one, and we will have money to put into some projects right away. Most of the stuff can wait. It may not all be my taste, but most of the stuff in the house is at least new/newish and clean. It should be fun.
That house is really great! You could do some amazing landscaping. I love the 70s homegrown style architecture where modern sort of meets hippie. It's like a more refined earth ship.
LOVE! What a fantastic space. If my traditional belongings wouldn't look ridiculous in a house like that, I'd totally consider a house in the style. The light and feeling in spaces designed in that style are really wonderful.
Here's a photo from the corner by the master bedroom looking toward the hall and the door that you have to use to get to the courtyard from the kitchen. I wish it came right from the kitchen and not the hall, but I'm sure it's not a big deal.
Oh, and both bathrooms have weird sinks like this...this one is the main bathroom, the master has two sinks. what a weird use of space.
That is a sliding door from the shower to the atrium area. If we ever have a pool in the backyard, or if someone gets muddy working in the yard, it could come in handy.
Love, OMG, I would so buy that house. You can make it incredible. It is amazing. I liked my house until I saw that one. I love the courtyard, you can do so much with that and love how all the rooms look out that way. So cool. My belongings would look great in there. Hee hee
Wha hoo! I haven't read anything except the title yet, but I came here after my commute specifically hoping to cajole you into a few pictres Off to spend some quality time with these pics...
Eh...the floor is laminate (which I loathe), and it is only in that room. I hate it when floors are not cohesive... at the very least in color, if not in materials.
I have this thing about the way laminate feels to me and the sound that it makes, and with 16 paws to click-clack on it....yeah, not looking forward to it. It does look nice irl, according to DH, but he and the realtor both thought the way it felt/sounded was a dead giveaway.

Interesting! I would be scared, but it seems like you can more than handle it! I love all the windows, even though some are in weird spaces (the shower, lol). It seems like it gets great light.

I want this house. I feel like some of whats going on in there seems a bit too traditional for that type of house but that's the architecture school in me. Can I have that house?!
What a great setting! Is it as isolated as it looks? Actually, I do see what I think is a couple of houses maybe over the fence?? Are you happy with the location relative to work, town, etc. (I remember that was one of your concerns). I know now you're a fellow carpet hater Are you going to get new flooring? I cannot wait to see what you do with this. BTW, have you ever posted pics of your current place; I don't think I've ever seen any.

I just wrote a long response and got logged out so it ate it. grrr
Not isolated, but almost at the end of a culdesac or dead end street. The location is about halfway between DH's work and where we thought we would like to be. Not too far away from anything, but not the walk score DH was hoping for. It is also kind of close to a huge freeway, but dh said that it isn't really noisy....no noisier than here, since we have a freeway that runs through the middle of town and is a similar distance away (maybe even closer). Our current fwy isn't as big as the one by the new house, but the new house fwy has a sound wall and ours has only an empty field and the houses at the end of the block between us. It really isn't noisy though.
I am not a fan of any of the flooring, and I am hoping that DH will agree with me to put in new floors even though these are new. I know that he wasn't impressed with any of them, and we really can't do carpet in rooms that the dogs have access to. Maybe we can reuse the tile outside or in my studio, and maybe the carpet find a home with someone other than us. I don't have a clue about the laminate though. I like flooring to be cohesive, and I really don't want laminate everywhere.

I agree. And no, you can't have the house. I think DH's engineer and her H (who had it on their list of homes to look at this week),have first dibs.
It is a shame they redid them with those materials. Maybe that can be one of your projects?
Is there a basement or other storage space?
I agree that courtyard could be amazing with the right landscaping. I love that we're going to get to see where you take this; it's so unique, and I love it! I can't get a real handle on the possible ventilation pathways in the house, but it looks like you might be able to get some good cross-breezes there, cutting down on the AC. Are you prepared for a Florida summer? Brutal. I'm really glad you have all that awesome tree cover.
