Does anyone else have that many? Dear lord. Wrapping really doesn't take that long. And paper is so much cheaper than bags.
I don't mind the painted cradle. She did say it smelled funky. Some smells just never go away.
I have hung gift bags in the past, but there weren't very many and they lay flat, because they were new or gently used, not obviously used saved to reuse/hoard. That is far more bags than anyone needs to hang on to..obviously since it sounds like they always have a supply that big.
lshoes- there are ways to get the smell out. It tales effort and some time, but can work. Even a clear sealer would have done the job. As if painting that cradle and sucking all of the life and character out of it wasn't bad enough, they are going to put pom pom fringe on it.
I swear, some of their decorating ideas are like the worst of the sixties and seventies.

Haha. Sorry Guys! I love unpainted wood too (the living room media cabinet, the console table that we built from scratch, Clara’s wooden dresser in her nursery, the wood duck on the wall in our dining room) but I also love to add pops of color and clean up old musty/burned wood. It’s a pretty nice balance for us, although we know it’s not for everyone
In true keeping it real fashion I feel John and I should fill you in on the process we took in designing this closet.
First I thought that a dark, rich ORB would be the perfect solution. I used thin and even coats and mist mist misted my way to this:
We loved how the deep tones really balanced the milky tea color of the closet walls. Unfortunately it competed a little too much with the balance of the toys on the other side and made the closet feel very heavy.
So we pulled out our trusty can of white and we are in LOVE with the results. However- the doll looked way too comfortable and warm, haha. So we decided to swap out the comfy blanket for something a little bit scratchy.
The new "comforter" really started to set the scene but you know us... we weren't done yet! The blanket created a heavy feeling and we needed something light to lift your eye and balance the cradle. I had just what the room was crying for...
We are in LOOOOOOVE. The teeny tiny bird cages bring so much pattern and lightness to the room. Plus their color compliments the tones already in the closet. There was one little thing missing though...
Perfect! We're crossing this closet makeover off of our list! Haha.
DAMMIT. I would have bought that bed from them for double what they paid for it if I could have saved it from being painted. It was gorgeous, and probably handmade.
One of the reasons their house seems so cold and sterile is that they never keep any warm wood tones on ANYTHING. I am a firm believer that you need some natural wood to warm a space.

That cradle was so beautiful as-is. Unlike my wooden doll cradle that someone stenciled hearts on! I would have traded her for sure.
I do like the idea of some toys in the closet. I think kids like to move around to different spaces, and have small sales to play in (my kids are always climbing under their bed to play, lol). The gift bag collection is bizarre, though.
Perfect! We're crossing this closet makeover off of our list! Haha.
But where is the pom pom fringe that you said that you would use on the cradle?
Oh yes, that’s coming up soon! That won't be part of the closet makeover however. We will pull the cradle out of the closet in order to get at least 2 more posts out of it.

I can totally get behind the concept of changing up play spaces. And I mean, the kid's little right? Play spaces don't have to be massive for little kids .
My parents live in a 1855 victorian that has a central staircase that used to go from the basement to the cupola (5 stories total). Sometime in the 1900's (not sure when) they closed off the stairs from the basement to the 1st floor & turned it into a coat closet. However the back of the coat closet is only about half way under the stairs - so my dad wants to put a small door there, extend the floor underneath it, give it some light & make it a hiding spot for the grand kids. Seems like a good idea to me .
Those two are just getting more weird and freaky by the hour.
You guys will love this. The other day I commented on the blog on something about Clara's room that I didn't think worked - trust me when I say it's been discussed in detail here. :-). She not only responded to my comment on the blog but then went as far as to send me an email saying 'wanted you to know I replied' and then copy pasted the same reply into the email. Is this new? Have they grown so defensive that they are emailing their negative commenters to tell them they defended whatever weird thing it was? It just seemed really strange and was defensiveness at its finest to me.
I loved playing in little spaces as a kid, but what made them the most fun was that I came up the idea and made it a fun space, not that my parents told me that was my playspace. I am not sure how I would have felt if I had been told to play in the closet. I thought parents putting a kid in a closet was considered a bad thing, but I guess if you are YHL it makes you a creative genius at repurposing spaces. ^o)
We use our closets for clothes and don't use dressers as much, but they seem to be the opposite, so they have all of that closet space to play around with/in.
sbp- you should look up past posts of the younghouselove AE....much more interesting and funnier than yhl.
I love the YHL troll. Marry Me? We can have an ORB reception and pops of color everywhere!
Rubes is obsessed with closets, so I get the idea. However, she takes her toys, opens the door herself and crawls in behind the coats and whatever else. No work and pretty required on my part! I can't decorate the viewable space I have properly muchless worry about a closet!
It's kind of interesting to watch. A few weeks/months ago, everyone was on eggshells because no one (there) wanted to criticize them. Now every post is like, WTF are they doing?!
We are actually watching their downfall.
ETA: For those not on GOMI, there's a lot of talk about how "desperate" they are seeming and must be losing pageviews. She never pinned her own projects before, and now downtonali's post about her emailing her the follow-up kind of confirms that.
I agree that GOMI has become fascinating to watch. Since Clara's big girl room, there seems to have been a groundswell of people coming out of the woodwork saying "um, this is a disaster!"
Ha, someone just posted that after leaving a negative comment, Sherry emailed her and basically told her to find another blog to read if she doesn't like theirs anymore.
