Yes. The obsession with criticizing them is just as annoying as all the suck ups on their blog.
Seriously. There are how many decor/style blogs out there, of course there are going to be plenty that don't work for any one person. And yet YHL (and occasionally YHL-adjacent Bower Power) is the only one regularly talked to death here. Fine, people don't like what they're doing. Stop looking at it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. We get it. They suck. Done.
I wish I could like this more than once! If you are going to post something to get genuine feedback and discussion back, that's great! If you are posting it just to get eye rolls and side eyes then stop. We get it. YHL does things that the majority of us don't agree with. Stop visiting their blog and posting a picture about a sheet.
For the record, I'm not a puppies and rainbows kinda girl and we don't need to "if you have nothing nice to say...". All I was saying is that YHL hasn't done anything good that's really worth talking about in...forever and posting every.single. bad thing they do is a little overkill. If I wanted to know what kind of crap they're posting about on a daily/weekly basis I'd visit the blog myself. When I see posts about them like this on the regular I simply think "Um, yeah...what's new?" It just makes me wonder what the OP's obsession is with them. Everyone loves a good train wreck, but when it's like YHL Groundhog's Day I'm just over it. KWIM?

FWIW I really like the navy sheet on the bed.
I like the basket. It's one of those things where I wouldn't take a 2nd look if I saw a plain basket, but I definitely would take a 2nd glance painted how it is. That is a cheap, easy way to give something character and I guess that the type of thing I look for when visiting diy blogs.
OP, Get Off My Internet (or whatever) loves to trash them. You'll probably get a better response there.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm just also tired of the "Lets complain about this, or criticize this" type posts that aren't constructive at all. What is the benefit of posting negative whiny shit?
The post about toy storage I thought was great. There was some genuine discussion, differing opinions, and all thrown in there. But YHL posts are always like *PIC* /eyeroll OMG She Spraypainted something! *** There is no discussion or anything of value brought from that.
And you know that I'm the first person to step in and tell you all the not nice things I have to say.

Not gonna lie, sometimes I just wanna whine about something and be a bitch, so that doesn't bother me too much. But when it's the exact same subject over and over, it's redundant.
I think with Ali confused with another poster. I don't think she trashes YHL as much as someone else I'm thinking of. But I could also be clueless and living in the dark ages.
But I also agree with the pp. Why do we feel the need to keep running to their blog just to rehash whatever they did right or wrong?
YHL sucks. I get it. Esp. when it comes to their weird remodel hack job projects. As for their decor though, I rarely see what's so godawful about it for the most part. I would never spray paint the ever living sh*t out of everything I own, but all in all their style is very cute and real. A bit funky and quirky and maybe out there a bit..but at least it's attainable. I don't mind them for the inspiration. I don't have all day to scour flea markets or the funds for PB like some other bloggers, so I can appreciate the "hey I bought this at Target. Look what you can do feel the blog has. I also don't have 45345346 hours in my weekends to complete some of the projects other bloggers take on. At least with YHL, it's quick fix inspiration. IDK, Sometimes I just feel like we'd all be bowing down to YHL if they were painting everything white, doing tan walls and homemade canvas art instead but because they do it with some color they suck. I get they may not have the best eye for color, but "eye for color" is pretty relative. Just because this board likes everything neutral doesn't mean the rest of America doesn't love the color blends they come up with. I for one think they've had some cute ones.
Afterall, I call BS on anyone on this board who isn't stuck working with what they have at least some of the time. I think that's the niche YHL fills. Work with what you got in the meantime. Some are better at it than others, but it's all decent inspiration.
As for this post. I have tons of those baskets from Target. They are so pretty on their own. WTH does it need spray paint? As for the sheet, meh whatever. It's not for me and doesn't necessarily blend in but it's not exactly the end of the world. It's fine. It's not ugly.

I actually liked today's post and I think the room is coming together nicely for a little girl. It's quite cheerful. I'm glad they switched up the rug and changed the sheet. I'm happy with it.
I don't understand why people who are sick of YHL posts keep coming back to this one and posting. It's just like any other post...you can choose to ignore it if you aren't interested.
I don't mind the occasional YHL post...bashing or not. It gives me a chance to watch the train wreck without having to give YHL clicks.
I might not mind the navy sheet if there wasn't so much other stuff going on in the room. It kind of makes the sheet the focal point of the room.
I like the basket, and think it is a clever idea, but I have seen two tone baskets before, (both woven and painted)and it doesn't make them 'geniuses'...even if their fanatic admirers think it does.

Okay, okay ladies! I've rocked the boat and I apologize. I'll be the first to admit I'm a bit cranky today. Just having one of those days. For the record, I am anything but obsessed with YHL and thank you Dairy for backing me on that. I don't think anybody around here is obsessed with them - some are just more vocal with their opinions than others, which is totally fine. Some days these posts fly and other days they don't. I get that.
This is probably a sign that I need to take an Internet break. Navy sheets should not annoy me so much.
Guys, downtonali is NOT the offending poster! She's not the one posting YHL all the time - I'll name that girl if you want me to, but I think Downton deserves an apology from every one of you!! She's sweet and DOES post often with constructive D&R posts.
I almost started this "OMG, again with the YHL?!" train the last time the usual poster did it a couple days ago, but I refrained.

Oh, Lord. I wasn't picking on Ali. I couldn't even tell you who had written the OP. I was just stating that I am tired of the YHL hate. There are several people who love to bash them on here.
You seem to only post YHL bashing stuff. . I wish you would contribute in more constructive ways TBH. It makes me wonder what your house must look like. I'm sure it's perfect and much better than YHL's?
I'm quoting because this is who said it was ali, and it's not.
downtonali, you're fine. You don't need to take an internet break We (heart) you.

Word! This is why I felt the need to back Ali up. She really is sweet. She doesn't mean any harm nor is she obsessive.
Oh please, there's been YHL-bashing for years. This is no different. I agree that it sometimes sucks to see the constant complaints about YHL, but then again it's fun to dish on them. Isn't that the point?
Team downtonali. Carry on with your criticisms, Downton. I, for one, do not care for that room at all. My only complaint is that you used too much restraint in your comments.

Haha. Come on now, we all know the only reason anyone posts about YHL is because it calls me out of my spray paint induced coma so I can come out and play with you. I know you heart me.

Ooh, I'm going to faux cross stitch that onto a small travel pillow that I took from a US Airways flight during our book tour. Post to come- you know we'll keep you updated!
I can take or leave the YHL discussions, but I am rolling my eyes at biting off someone's head for discussing the most popular D&R blog on a D&R board. If it's THAT irritating, then Ali isn't the one who needs an internet break.
@callmefia (did this work right?)- I love you I just want to get that out first. I really appreciate your honesty on this board you often say things I'm thinking and I laugh at your humor.... but I think you need to get over this need for the perfect H&G forum of "positivity" and "constructive criticism" only thing. I often feel at times you're trying to dominate the board and call people out if they're not posting the way you want them to. This is a "home" board for some and that means posts that aren't necessarily related to H&G. I know I'm MORE than guilty of posting non-H&G stuff because I don't have a lot going on with my house right now, but I still want to chit-chat. Just...let go a bit. (hug) zombie hugs.
As for Ali's YHL posting, whatever. I'll always hate YHL posts regardless of who the OP is. I'm just sick of hearing about them in general. I need a YHL alert in order to avoid the posts like that.
I'm quoting because this is who said it was ali, and it's not.
downtonali, you're fine. You don't need to take an internet break We (heart) you.
I didn't suggest Ali was the only person who commonly brings up YHL or most common YHL basher, but I do feel like a lot of her posts are YHL bashing and you can look at history to see it. I don't recall anytime she has posted about her own house or anything to discuss related to H&G besides blog comments. Hardly ever have I seen "they should have done X instead" which would be way better.
I like Ali but it would be awesome to read more than the "I'm sick should I go to work?" Or "look what YHL did" posts. I meant it constructively. I definitely don't want you to disappear, but rather you post more often so I can get to know you rather than just how you hate Clara's bedroom.
Flame away. I know some disagree but this has been grating on me for awhile. I guess the YHL person everyone else thought of is never even on my radar at all. I like Ali enough that I notice and wish she would post more often and less about YHL. I have no clue what her style is but I do for a lot of other people around here who talk about and ask questions about their houses.
Okay Merida, please listen. I've known many of these ladies online for years and we've always talked about lots of other topics aside from D&R, from major life issues to piddly stuff. It's part of why this board is so great because nothing is really off limits, and we can all have different opinions without it getting too crazy. At the end of the day we all group hug and respect/like each other. I honestly couldn't name any of the girls here followed by the topic of her last post, but are you keeping track of mine? In all seriousness, if you have a problem with me or my posts then just don't click on them.
thewop I appreciate it. I don't intend to come off that way but sorry! I'm kind of surprised! I am really bad with words and how to say what I think in a tactful way. I don't want it to be all positivity but the negative out of the same people is old.
Lol. I am not the rainbows and puppies gal you pegged me for. I just am anti blanket statements about how we should all strive to stick with the integrity of our homes without disregard of budgets in recent threads. In other words, I have a jealousy complex.
Zombie hugs back, and to all
And I wanted to add that super cranky second part of my post quoting you was not aimed at you specifically. I reread it and saw that it could look that way.
Oh jeez..Group hug. I'm team Wop. We all just come on here to chitchat. Don't get too wrapped up in what anyone posts. MY D*R life for one isn't that exciting right now. I've been there, done most of that, out of money and over it for right now. I still like to come for the chitchat though and I don't find a thing wrong with that.

Lord knows I haven't posted anything of my own house in ages. I finished decorating months and months ago and won't do anything else of my own until we move this summer. And I'm sure if you look through the posts I've authored, they're all critical and poking fun, but that's bc DH is 7 hours away and not on the couch beside me so I can't nudge him and make him agree that XYZ is ridiculous Now that we're on this semi-private board, I feel less bound by the D&R title re: staying on topic. I feel like these girls are just girlfriends to chat with on lots of topics.
