I've been seeing a lot of those around in Shanghai. I like the colorblock esque look but at first I didn't know what to think of the flaps, but they've grown on me, and now I find myself wanting one. I saw a bunch at the fake market the other day - it was a good thing I didn't have much money on me or I'd probably have spent way too much on one.

when you have a purse this expensive, do you not put lipstick, gum, pens, in it? Because inevitably the cap will come off of my chapstick or pen at some point and mark the inside all up.
are these type of bags just more for show than function?

I put in everything, including uncapped pens. I am a slob. But cobblers will clean purses for you. And I do have stuff like my lipgloss in a makeup bag. Pens are an issue, though I don't really carry them anymore because I always have an ipad if I need to write something down.

see Elle, I guess when you have a $2k bag, you give things like makeup bags and carrying an ipad around more thought because now they seem like "duh" solutions.
I like it a lot. I still can't justify the price tag, but if it were only a few hundred, I's consider it.

No.
Think about scale. My brother and I had this discussion one day when he was buying me lunch. He always buys me meals, and I used to try to protest, but now I never do after our fun little chat.
Let's say a person makes $30,000. Another person makes $300,000. And another person makes $3,000,000. With each additional zero at the end of one's income, the way one perceives prices radically changes.
How a $30,000 earner feels about a $30 bag is comparable to how a $300,000 earner feels about a $300 bag and how a $3,000,000 earner feels about a $3,000 bag.
If a pen leaked all over the $30,000 earner's $30 bag, that would be pretty annoying, but it wouldn't break the bank to buy a new $30 bag. Perhaps there might be an ever-so-slight pinch, but it's still not a huge deal to buy a new $30 bag.
The feeling is the same re the $300 bag and $3,000 bag for the other two people.
And this is why I don't feel bad anymore about my brother always paying for things. LOL.
You know, I like the picture of Alessandra holding the bag, and I figured out why. The brown strap is over the flap, which makes it look like a purposeful design element. If the flaps had straps (lol), I might like the bag more. But they look like wings to me.

I don't disagree with this logic at all. If I was buying a bag this expensive, it would mean something different to me. I would probably gently put my wallet and a cosmetic bag in it. No pens would ever see the inside, LOL.
See, I make more than $30,000, but a pen ruining a $30 bag would piss me OFF. I think I might actually cry to have to replace it. I don't like spending money. I think we need to factor in the cheapness factor to that little talk.
LOL. Ok, point taken.
But, in theory, replacing the bag is not a financial burden.
