I promised some updated pictures of our master bedroom a while back and I finally got my recovered external hard drive back with all of my pictures so here they are. The master bedroom isn't finished yet but it's coming along. More importantly we're back to living in it since starting this remodel in July 2011! So here is the evolution of the master bedroom:
Previous owner's stuff
After we moved in we bought a new bed frame and painted the room a green color to "go" with the avocado master bathroom.
The room was long and skinny but we completely rearranged that when we expanded both the main and master bathroom. In the process we also removed the non-working fireplace, moved the LR/master bedroom wall, and expanded the master closet.
Moving the LR wall.
Corner of the master bedroom that is now the master bath.
New master bedroom and master bathroom windows framed in with the old LR and master bedroom window shown. Old LR/master bedroom wall was where the electrical outlets are hanging.
New windows in. Future furniture taped on floor.
Subfloor removed for new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. Recessed basement lights added as well. New subfloor leveled out before install.
Lights and outlets wired for master bathroom. New 6x4' window in the same spot as the old one that used to be in the master bedroom.
New insulation and visqueen in the walls.
Drywall. Lots of time spent blending old and new drywall on walls and ceiling.
Solid hickory hardwood floors installed and finished on site. I've never been a fan of this entry area but now that the old closet door and master bathroom doors have been moved it's much better.
New master bathroom and closet doorways.
Master bedroom in it's current state. We bought a new solid cherry dresser to match the bed and installed our own hardware on it. The old nightstands will be replaced with similar pieces.
The doors and trim need to be installed. Then we can get window treatments and a rug. I have a king size duvet to replace this old worn queen size one but I need to order a new white duvet cover to fit. The chair will need to be reupholstered at some point. We need to add a lot of artwork, round mirror over the bed, and hang the super slim TV on the wall across from the bed. But the whole room is a huge improvement so far.
Oh I uploaded pictures of the floors in the other bedrooms as well. We put them in all 3 bedrooms and the hall because there was a good transition point there. They are 4" wide solid 3/4" hickory in a select grade (no knots or mineral streaks) from this place. They were excellent quality I highly recommend them!
Then we sanded and finished them on site. 2 rounds of sanding with the big orbital and edging with a palm sander followed by 4 layers of oil based poly with pole and palm sanding between each layer. The poly is a high quality satin finish made by the same brand that does most bowling alley floors. Because of the timing I did most of the poly layers myself after work at night and it took 7-8 hours to sand and poly each layer! Those were some late nights but I love the result!
Finished product. Hall with cherry door on main bathroom. All of the future doors and trim will match.
Love the floors and LOVE the tufted chair in the corner.
I found the chair at an estate sale for $70. It's a really good quality piece but it's been reupholstered in a fabric that isn't as good. Someday I want to reupholster it but it will be staying this way for a long time. We need to get the rest of the house back together first. We're putting new flooring in the LR & DR right now and we're hosting Easter so that is our top priority.
i can't decide what i think of the floors. they look great for the type they are. but, i don't think they are my style. i do like that you like them, so i get to see what they look like in someone's space, ykwim? i love your furniture and light fixture choices, not to mention the renovating you have done to expand the spaces wanted.

great work!
I totally know what you mean. They are very bold and such a big part of the room so I think it's one of those you either love them or hate them kind of things. When DH first suggested hickory I initially wanted to stain them to even out the color variations but when I started collecting inspiration pictures they grew on me. Then we I saw them installed unfinished I fell and love and knew there was no way we were staining them.
The bedroom is just a whole bunch of wood on wood right now but when we get a rug I think that will help break things up and add some color.
How pretty. Great job. When does the closet stuff go in? I'm really looking forward to seeing that installed.
Oh not for a while. I'm hoping we can get to that in April before our sporting season and the gardening season really start kicking off. We have plenty of other things to get done first like stain, poly, and install all of the doors. Install the master bathroom vanities and storage cabinets the carpenter will probably be done with the week after Easter. Finish making the trim with my Dad...we still have to cut some of the profiles, surface sand it all, hand sand the angles and ease the edges, stain, poly, and install it! I already have an entire weekend of hand sanding to look forward to. My arm is already aching at the thought.
I have all of the bars, pull outs, shoe fences, and ironing board though so that's a start.
