I've seen Cafe Phoenix on Yelp! It is one of the top restaurants. I am a Yelping FOOL I tell ya. I have already bookmarked like 20 places in Port A. I love the small beach town feel of Port A. Well, I havent been there yet myself but from what I have seen online and heard.
CC and SPI seem much larger and touristy am I wrong? I will definitely try those places if we go and hit you up for more info. Thanks!
Have you ever been down this way? This summer we have rented a beach house in Crystal Beach in Bolivar. Bolivar Peninsula is a ferry ride awy from Galveston. Sorry if you already know that. LOL

Yes, I really love the small beach town feel of Port A also! It's a cool little place
CC is much larger, but not huge. Not that touristy, really. There are touristy things to do there, but it's kind of just like a small city. If you do go to CC, go to Harrison's Landing for Happy Hour. The Yardarm is good for dinner, and my brother is the chef there.
You know, I think I went to Bolivar when I was a kid. Haven't been to Galveston in probably 20 years. I've heard it's changed a lot!
Oh and as far as SPI, I've been down there a few times but I don't really like it. It's probably 2 hours south of CC.
I'm always happy to give opinions and/or recommendations for Port A. I loved living there, and still go over for dinner or live music about once a month or so. My favorite restaurant is the Pelican Club, not to be confused with Pelicans Landing. Any good reviews for there are generally intended for PC, if they mention water view it's definitely PC! It's a bit highbrow, but the food is always fresh and good, and the sushi is great, too. I went about once a week last summer while I still lived there and sat at the bar, David the head bartender always took good care of me. I love Cafe Phoenix, the chef/owner Tiana is awesome. And I'm a pretty big fan of La Playa for Mexican, reasonably priced (for a tourist area), fresh and good. Good service, too.
Welcome to GBCN!
Hi! You had me at water view. I'm seriously such a sucker for any and everything on or near the water. I will have to look PC up. It isn't ringing a bell. La Playa I know I saw because Mexican is my favorite. I don't forget. LOL
Do you have any suggestions for bars? It will most likely be just me and H on this trip so I doubt we will do any hardcore partying but we will still probably get out for drinks at night.

I don't know WTH I was thinking. I believe I meant Rockport. Port A is the only one I spent much time looking at.
Galveston has changed so much! There has been so much rebuilding even since Hurricane Ike. There is now a Pleasure Pier over the water. I am 20 minutes away and still haven't tried that yet. I keep saying I want to go when it won't be crowded or busy, so basically NEVER. haha
People have told me that Port A is extremely golf cart friendly. Is this true? What about by bicycle?
That is one of the reasons we choose to get a house on Bolivar rather than Galveston Island. It was already a very small town and Ike completely demolished every bit of it. It has built back up some but we love the very small town feel. It is like another world over there.
Hmm. Yardarm sounds good, but a bit pricy. Bummer. If we go there, I'll have to treat, CG gets nervous when dinner is that much. Silly boy, he thinks dinner for two shouldn't be more than $50 ever.
It is really good, and honestly you get a ton of food for the price. Often my mom and I split an entree and apps and we are totally stuffed (the bottle or two of wine doesn't hurt, either). My cousin also works there on the weekends, ask to sit with Liz.
Yes to golf carts and bikes. They are all over the place.
As far as bars, Shorty's for beer, Flats for local flavor, Bernie's for loud music, cheap drinks, dancing and crowds. The folks who bought my restaurant turned it into a bar, but I think their prices are outrageous, but it looks good and they will have music most weekend nights. Giggity's is the name. Tarpon Ice House is a local beer haunt as well, and they have lots of live music. Oh yeah, The Gaff for beer and pizza, belt sander races some afternoons, some music. The owner is awesome, and his girlfriend is my hairdresser! Love them both.
All of those places are bookmarked I believe but Giggitys? Gaff has the sand belt races right? I do TONS of research when we are going to travel. I usually know the whole town like the back of my hand before we get there.
I'm so happy to hear you recommend some of these places! I will admit I LOVE dive bars. (Not saying all of these are) I told H let's go to Port A and be beach beach bums, ride golf carts/bikes and hang out at their local dive bars. I know that may not sound like fun for some but hanging with locals whether in Destin, FL or Jamaica has always been the best times. A lot of the reviews on Yelp and TA are from tourists and that may not be their cup of tea I know.
