"There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings or walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given."
By all means, make me cry like a babe at work!
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's ok to grieve. Pets are family members.
@dr.girlfriend, that quote is beautiful and sums it up perfectly. Every moment of this pain is worth the joy and love we received from him.
beaglemama, Winnie is a cutie! Give her a big hug for me!
gravytrain225, the pain I am feeling right now can only be a fraction of what you and your husband are going through. My thoughts are with you guys and your sweet boy.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words. They mean a lot. I hope we'll soon be in a place where we can cherish the happy memories of our pup without the pain and sadness.
I am sorry for your loss. We lost our girl last month, and while it's still fresh, I am getting used to the empty house. The vet gave me a book about grieving a pet- and that's what you have to do- you have to grieve. I thought people would think I was crazy for crying and being sad, but I realized every pet owner goes through this and understands. It's just part of life. The only advice I can give in my short experience is to give it time. If you are not ready to move his bowls or part with his leash, then don't. If you need to be alone and be sad, then do so. It truly is a grieving process, and don't be ashamed of it. But it will get better. Hugs to you! Post if you need anything!
