These people would get a kick out of my anxiety therapy homework this week. I have been assigned to get a gel manicure and spa pedicure (something better than just the basic). It's not allowed to count towards my "fun money" budget allowance, either. My life is hard, yo.

Posting late to the thread.
I don't get the mob in this thread. The posts being chided seem like a spin-off or at minimal a reference to Bach's coined phrase "The Latte Factor" -- the book GBCN MM just recently read.
Old MM used to have many posts about frugality, pinching pennies, budget reviews and cutting cable.

That was in regards to people who can't afford it. As incogneato pointed out many people can easily work a latte into their budget and still pay their bills and meet their financial goals. The nest ladies were freaking out that if someone spent a whopping $100 over the course of a year on small luxuries, then they are making poor choices and will end up broke and possibly on public assistance. Surely you can see why that is silly.

Exactly. Her insinuation that the end result of spending $100 on coffee in a YEAR will be public assistance... Well, come on.
This thread is fantastic - I finally got a chance to read it this morning.
I am totally CRAZY frugal in some areas (no cable, generic cereals) but do splurge in other areas (health & fitness stuff, travel, shoes) relative to average budgets. BUT - I am not excited about putting people down because they spend THREE FIGURES (lol at Ma and Pa Ingalls) on stuff like coffee.
Sad that old MM seems to be a bit meaner - I'm glad I came over here and de-lurked!
