Congratulations! Has your doctor talked to you about any special precautions for this time around?
Hi thanks so much for asking. Ill be getting p17 injections. And I'll also be seen weekly starting very early (I honestly can't remember when!). and i think the MFM also had said regular U/S. I had asked about bed rest or a Cerclage, but he said that as long as things progressed as planned, there wouldn't be a need for either (fingers Xed!!). Now that its officially official, I need to call to schedule my 1st apt. I had met with the him about 6 months ago, but obviously didnt take good notes. How was your care different after your preemie?

I had 17p injections between weeks 16 and 36. My doctor refused to use the Makena, for ethical reasons, because they charge so much so I got them from a compounding pharmacy. Check with your insurance what they'll pay for. I would pick up the vials every month and either go in for the injection or have a friend of mine who's a nurse do it. Some people's husbands do it for them, but DH is squeamish. If you don't go into the office ever week, you'll have to get syringes too.
The 17p isn't that bad after the first couple of weeks, but the injection site can be sore at first and it can mess with your hormones at first. Make sure they switch sides every week.
Starting around week 20 or 22, I had regular checks, every week or so, eventually stretching into 2 weeks. At each visit I had a cervical U/S. Be prepared for your dr. to become very familiar with your nether regions.
At that time I was also put on pelvic rest and told to take it easy. It wasn't bed rest, but I had to rest as often as I could.
Most of the time, unless there's something definitely diagnosed, doctors take a wait and see approach. They might do bedrest if a problem shows up, so always have a back up plan in place, for what happens if you have at home bed rest or hospital bed rest.
Eventually you will breathe easier, but not until you know this pregnancy will be longer than the first one.
