And would you judge a parent having a kid's party at McDonald's?
I made the mistake of mentioning McDonald's as a possible party location to my soon to be 3 year old, and now I can't talk him out of it. I even took him to a frozen yogurt place today and showed him their party room, and asked if he wanted his party there as he chowed down on his yogurt. He responded that he wants to have his birthday party at "Old McDonald's" (lol) and take off his shoes (meaning play on the playground where kids have to take off their shoes). I just feel like parents are going to groan when they see where the party is at and not want to bring their kids. Am I silly to think this? People around here have toddler parties at Gymboree, the park with rented bouncy houses and grilling out, or at home and they look straight from Pinterest. I think the only place my son would pick over McDonald's is Chuck E. Cheese, and I'm definitely not offering that up as an option.

I would. I take DD to play in the McDonald's play place often in the winter since there aren't any good indoor playgrounds.
DD got to choose where to go to eat for her 4th birthday and she chose McDonald's. Maybe you could talk him into going to McDonald's on his actual birthday and have his party somewhere else.
I've never heard of a party there, so I would find it very odd and kind of cheap, but not a big deal. To answer your question, yes I would take my kids. As long as they are going to have fun, then it's fine.

I would rather go to Chuck E Cheese, but wouldn't be thrilled to go to either of those places. I feel like Chuck E Cheese is kind of a more legit party venue.
Lol, jermys. I would lie about Ronald being gone too. No birthday parties, sorry! We manipulate all of our restaurant choices this way. Places close when it rains, on Tuesdays, etc....
I would prefer chuck e cheese to McDonald's, but that is just me.
I went to a mcd's party as a kid. It was lame. Because you're just hanging out in a fast food joint.
My kid thinks it's a blast just to go to the grocery store, so a playground AND french fries is pretty damn exciting to him.
McDonalds does have legit party packages. My kid (and I'm sure the other kids) would love it, but it would seem lame as hell to the adults. I think the party would pretty much be the kids eating a happy meal, having a piece of cake, and then playing on the playground.
A random pic of a McDonald's party I found online. The whole thing makes me cringe, but then I feel guilty at the idea of trying to talk my kid out of the party he wants. I do need to just tell myself that he's easily distracted and will forget all about this idea if I come up with something else.
I kind of like the idea of going there to eat on his birthday, but the party somewhere else. I can invite my parents and tell him it was his family McDonald's birthday party.
Like, why not host an "old McDonald" themed party at home or the park?
We just had family over for dinner and Lu was beside herself with joy because we had a Dora ice cream cake. Three year olds are easy. Don't give in yet!
This is a great idea!
As for fast food McDonald's I might judge a little, but I would go.
Kristie, we do the same thing. I am SUCH a filthy liar - "Oh we can't go to the park, it's closed. You see other kids there? They're breaking the law." "Oh it's so sad, Dunkin Donuts ran out of donuts! Mommy's just going to get some coffee." "My breath does NOT smell like chocolate! It smells like Diet Coke!" "Oh, it looks like Good Luck Charlie isn't on right now. DVR? No, there aren't any on there either."

HA HA HA! I think I told DS my first lie today. I was letting him run around and play by a fountain. On the edge of the fountain is a life size statute of a little boy sitting down that DS was fascinated with, so I told him that the little boy turned into a statue when he didn't obey his parents. Now I feel like I'm going to hell, lol.
ETA: I just realized I typed "statute" instead of "statue". The other day I typed "mediate" instead of "meditate". Ha.
You just said he gets excited about going to the grocery store. I'm sure he'll be thrilled with a non-McDonald's party. And a park sounds about perfect.
Okay, grilling out and a bounce house in our back yard it is. I personally like the idea of adults being able to eat and hang out (and drink) while letting the kids run around in the yard. I can have adult beverages for the grown ups, right?

I really regret taking my dd to a party there a few years ago. She loved it so much she was constantly asking to go again. It was the first thing she asked for when she woke up and the last thing she asked for when she went to bed for at least 3 weeks. Sorry honey, mcdonalds is broken.

I had two birthday parties at McD's as a kid. It was actually pretty fun. They gave us a tour of the kitchen, Ronald painted our faces, and Happy Meals! I have a January birthday, so the only inside places to have parties were fast food joints or the arcade in the mall.
