Think caring for a newborn is hard? Try a newborn that's still attached to its placenta!
The all-natural trend, called Lotus Birth or umbilical nonseverance, calls for a mother to allow the umbilican border to detach from her baby naturally. In practical terms, that means carting around a blob of red matter (aka the placenta) that can stayed plugged into the baby's tummy for up to 10 days. (Um, gross, anyone??!!)

No.
Nononono.
Seeing the placenta was cool.
Bringing it home still attached? Nope. I can't imagine being like, "Here's the baby, sis! Don't mind my placenta. It should be detaching in about ten days."
It was so cool!!! My doctor and the med students took a long time to look at it, too, because it had formed 2 lobes so each boy essentially got his own (thorough analysis confirmed they shared a single placenta, it hadn't fused). It was neat to see the sacs with the cords, too.
Biology is awesome. Carrying biology around in a bowl is gross.

I don't see how this could be good for baby. There's so much that happens physiologically when you clamp and cut the cord. Never mind that placentas a just gross.

What do you do with the placenta, exactly? Put it in a messenger bag? Or a fanny pack on the baby? Or a tote? Or put the baby in a little baby Spanx and slip it inside?
