Before I sit back with my coffee and read your recap. I just found out about the Hokie Half in Sept. I REALLY want that to be my first Half. I want that Hokie Bird medal!!! Is this one on your radar?
So awesome! Great re-cap. I love that you called your dad, and the part about the Black Dog Salvage aid station. A girl in my running group one a spot on the marathon relay team with Frank Shorter, Bart Yasso, & Bill Rodgers.
In all honesty, what a great recap. Sounds like a tough race, but you finished. And you mentioned some really important things--runners are a great community, so supportive, so encouraging, so resilient. And our supporters are just as awesome as we are. Thank you for sharing the experience.
What an inspiring recap- fantastic just "Running and Being". Just read an article in RW about George Sheehan and between that and your recap I think I need to pick that book up.
Haha. That's awesome, @vtcupcake. I probably would have been the same way, "Oh, yeah, hi! I totally curse you and your 800's during training, and now here you are. Right in front of me." I'm totally jealous of her too. I've seen a few of her pics on Facebook, but haven't had a chance to talk to her yet to get a re-cap.
LOVED your recap! I'm all teary eyed. I loved that you stopped at the Star and called your dad, that was awesome. I have a friend whose parents live up near the Star and I remember how steep it was getting up there in a CAR! Huge kudos to you for powering through the mountain. That is awesome! Congratulations on your huge accomplishment!

Since Divas conflicted with the Hokie Half, I didn't even bother checking out the race until you two ladies mentioned it.
So, yeah, I'm kind of glad I'm not running it. Because I run that route like EVERY DAMN WEEKEND. Snooze. Maybe once I graduate and the race keeps going I'll come back and do it. But I run the trail and campus alllllll the time, back and forth, forever.
PS- now you know how to stalk me.
I was like that when I was in school but I haven't been back there for 5 years. I've been looking for an excuse to go back.

@vtcupcake, how's the elevation? How hilly is it? Since it would be my first Half, I'm looking for an easy course!
I almost wish I didn't know about this Half b/c now I'm so torn! We would drive down and spend the entire weekend, it wouldn't be so bad if the Hokies were at home that weekend so we can catch a game too. It's just a ton of money to spend to run a Half.
cuadrado, we went back two years ago and that was the first time hubby and I had been back on campus in over 10 years. We met up with our friends there for a Clemson game and it seriously was so much fun to be back there. I've missed it a lot. So much had changed yet stayed the same.

Great Recap! I have only been to Roanoke twice (for work). When I first saw the star, it was dark and rainy - I definitely thought it was on the top of a high rise...not a mountain! Wow. Still contemplating if I'm ready for such an undertaking next Spring
