But you guise, she NEEDED that sandwich!! She's pregnant AND 35. They need to change corporate policy for her. If that kid were born with two heads and a tail because of tainted lettuce, she could sue!!!
If it were me (and it never would be) but IF it was, I would pick the lettuce off the sandwich. Put it in the oven. Pull it out of the oven. Put the lettuce back on.
Um, I cannot understand how she has functioned for 35 years so far....

But the lettuce is contaminated because it touched the meat!!!

Jimmy Johns tries to trick me all the time and put SO MUCH LETTUCE on my sandwich. I'm pretty sure she could pick off half that didn't touch the meat and still be ok.
Did you ladies have food "NEEDS" this early in pregnancy? Cravings of any sort didn't set in for me until much later.
When I was pregnant with DD I craved strawberry yogurt every day beginning around week 6, and I don't even like yogurt that much. However, I never pleaded with anyone for it and I didn't email Yoplait begging that my probiotics be put on the side.

She DDed the thread. I hate that shit. If you're going to post, don't get all butthurt and delete it if people don't agree with you. (Overly offensive topics aside)
Someone will call her dumb ass out for DDing. UO: I think it is stupid to avoid lunch meat and/or heat it up during pregnancy. Unless there has been a listeria outbreak.
This is a quote from the American Pregnancy Association: According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), an estimated 1,700 persons become seriously ill each year in the United States and among these, 260 will die. Although the CDC states that pregnant women are 20 times more likely to become infected than non-pregnant healthy adults, the number of cases of listeriosis in pregnant women is about 17%
It's a small risk, but I didn't think it was worth it.
This is the email I sent to JJ after my experience with them last night. Needless to say I will not be going back!
To whom it may concern: I am writing in regards to an experience I had with you Jimmy John’s location on *********** on 4/24/13 around 5:30 p.m. I love JJ and normally have great experiences when getting sandwiches from any location. I am pregnant and really, really wanted a sandwich from JJ. Let me restate that, I needed it. If you have any pregnant women in your life, you probably understand how huge this NEED is. You might also know that pregnant women are not supposed to eat cold cuts for fear of listeria. Cold cuts need to be heated up before eaten to kill any potentially harmful bacteria. When I called to place my order I asked if they could put the lettuce on the outside of the sandwich so I could put in the oven at my house to warm up. I didn’t ask for it in a separate wrap, or bag, just instead in the sandwich I asked them to just place outside of the bread and wrap as normal. The women taking my order simply would not do it. She told me that it was corp policy not to put anything the side. I asked her a few times why, getting more desperate with each question and she couldn’t explain; she just told me no. I pleaded with her, I really needed this sandwich, and the only things standing in my way was this woman saying they couldn’t do a simple thing so this pregnant woman could just have her sandwich. I didn’t ask for the lettuce to be wrapped separate or anything else just that instead of putting the lettuce in the sandwich just lay it on the outside of the bread. They would not do it. Needless to say I cancelled my entire order, including my husband’s sandwich and hung up.
If this is your corp, policy it feels like you have really missed out on the opportunities for great customer service. At this point you have lost a long time customer. I will also be letting all of my pregnant friend’s on national chat rooms of my experience with “corp” policy at JJ.
She DDd, but thankfully someone on ML copied and pasted....

But do you avoid cantaloupe as well? Why is lunch meat getting picked on? It is so delicious!
Actually, I don't eat canteloupe. I wasn't aware of other risks of listeria other than lunchmeat. Had I been aware, I probably would have tried to avoid them.

Granted, I'm a super speshul snowflake - the last time I think I ate lunchmeat was almost 28 years ago, so it was easy to avoid during pregnancy. I did, however, eat cantaloupe with reckless abandon. Andrew turned out okay.

I actually wash the outside of all fruits before I cut into them. Watermelon, canteloupe, etc. That can help prevent listeria getting onto the fruit you eat.
I also now want to eat like 75lbs worth of JJ. I can't quit you, deli meat.
I worked at a college for the entirety of my pregnancy. It had a fancy pants cafeteria, like, no burgers and pizza at this place, there was a different menu every day and it was sustainable, local food, for the most part, and really good. 90% of the time, I went to the sandwich station. Why are sandwiches so good?!
