My Mother's Day Present....the orange coat

As requested by @ojo and @mrsspunky (I think).  Here is the notorious mother's day present.  It wouldn't be so bad except:

1.  I live in NC.
2.  It's May in NC.
3.  In the 12 years, he has known me, I have never worn orange or any variation of orange.


Oh and for the visual, imagine me storming a beach, wearing this coat and a kilt (not sure why, but Braveheart/Scottish warring comes to mind), yelling "NO DEFENDING THE ENEMY."

I agree that it is a terrible present for you, and I am sorry you are upset. Personally I love it and it is totally something I would wear, because I am all about orange, although it is the wrong season. Did he get it directly from Patagonia? They are fabulous about returns with no questions asked.

Did he buy it for Christmas and lose it for 5 months? This is just such a bizarre choice. And I'm saying that as someone that got a heated blender for Christmas.

I have no earthly idea what possessed him to buy it. I think he's trying to make me sporty (not going to happen) as he also bought me a salomon running jacket. I did mention that my old black wool coat wasn't as good with the kids, but I already have a layered north face coat (see what I mean about him trying to make me sporty, I have bought none of these super nice outdoorsy jackets for myself). I haven't a clue on the orange though.

Orange would not look good on me, but I have a similar Patagonia jacket and it is great! It is a really strange gift though! Sorry!

No, it was bought recently as the package came a couple weeks ago. I almost opened it because why would my husband buy me something from Patagonia?

This reminds me of my CW-his wife bought him an expensive black down coat for Xmas. He's like "I look like the Michelin man" and she's going to be p^ssed if I tell her I don't like it.

Ha, I'm in trouble if he wants to take me hunting. He doesn't own a gun or know how to shoot.  

I actually don't mind it if it was a different color. It's just a really weird present in May.

I was in Scotland last week and I would have totally worn that coat in May in the Highlands. Not so sure about North Carolina in real spring. Maybe your DH has some kind of trip planned to go along with it?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he got it on sale. I can't find it on their website at all, otherwise i might suggest exchanging colors.  He has been into Patagonia running gear since he ran the bridge run. 

The orange color is the biggest wtf.  Wanna make a trade?  Orange Patagonia coat for design help?

Yep. I think he is either trying to convince me to get out more when it is cold (I tend to be a hermit) or he is preparing for a move to a much colder climate. 

I FINALLY found the credit card charge on it. He paid about $150 and new ones (in MUCH prettier colors) are going for $250ish. Do you think it's worth exchanging for $100 just because of the color?  He was so excited about it, telling me about how it's down filled and has this cool flip down hood that turns into a collar (it is kind of neat).

I agree that it is a totally bizarre and seasonally/geographically inappropriate gift, but I actually think the coat it cute. I like orange!

I like it, actually. And in the picture it looks like a lightweight down, so I actually think it might be good for NC winters. But it is such a strange gift. If it were me, I would keep it because it would make me laugh every time I wore it (and I would tease DH too). But if you're not going to wear it, I would return it. I'm sure it wasn't cheap since it's Patagonia!
