Interesting! Personally I've never seen much appeal to the "traditional" methods of burial, and I actually think that objectively it's even a little bizarre.
Donate my organs, cremate me and do whatever you want with the ashes. If it makes my family happy to put them on the mantle, fine. If they want to scatter them in the ocean, across the Himalayas, or dump them in the frog pond behind our house, go nuts.

Love the Big Lebowski reference! This reminds me of this article I read about 'green burial' (cardboards caskets, etc) that discussed the environmental impact of our typical burial practices. I have to admit, that was one thing that I never thought about in terms of 'going green'!
ETA: But I totally agree with onomatopoeia on this...I have no desire to be stuck in the ground in a fancy box. Cremation is just fine with me!
