Do you have any strong opinions on this as an exterior paint color? We are painting out house this weekend, and I'm surprised how many people have strong negative opinions on this particular color--everything from "it's depressing/cold/drab" to "it will lower your property value."
Fwiw, the color on the right is our current color, on the left is one we are considering. Dark gray roof, white windows, dark gray trim, no landscaping in front yet (seriously--it's just dirt).
Am I going to regret this? This all of a sudden got scary.
Oh, I like it better than plenty of colors, really. Some colors, like dark red, you really need to right house to pull off, you know? I think bluish-gray works with a lot of stuff.
Lowering your property value? Unless it's a really unusual color period, I can't see something in the gray family being that offensive.
And, totally anecdotal, but gray is relatively popular in our 'hood and doesn't seem to impact price: plenty of houses sold last year and all around the same range regardless of exterior color, which were all neutrals (tans, taupey browns and grays.)
The color in the left is the color you're considering? Because that doesn't look grey to me at all. I like the color on the right, although I would consider going darker.
Our house is a light blue gray with a dark gray roof and white trim. I wish I had a picture to show you. It had several offers on it before we purchased it, so I don't think the color drove buyers away.

I'm glad somebody else said this because I was confused, too.
In any case, our current house is like the one on the left (it was that color when we bought it) and it's nice, but I also like the one on the right. I certainly wouldn't assume it would lower your property value.

Reading your post again, this really pisses me off. Who the fuck says this to someone about what they are planning on doing to improve their home?!? People and their bullshit unsolicited advice piss me off sometimes!
Dude, I would get it if you were going to do stripes, or fuschia, but seriously, hurt your resale with a pretty neutral color?! People that are obsessed with their resale....get over it....you are living in your house, not some ambiguous, fantasy future buyer!!
I don't know why that bugs me so much, but it does!! Clearly
I have a blue-grey house and I love it. We have lots of people knocking on the door to ask our paint color. Definitely go more grey than you think you need to -- I think your color is too baby blue, especially when it's on the whole house and next to a blue sky. I would also go darker.
I guess I'm alone in not liking that blue grey with all dark grey roof and trim. What color will your gutters be? I googled the color combination and found a couple examples. I think the ones with the additional white trim look better. I think I just like more contrast between house color and trim. But I don't think your house value will go down.
Your colors sound like #3 without the white. FWIW, my house is greige (a light grey with beige undertones) with black roof and shutters, like #2 without the white. It's a traditional color scheme and looks fine but not amazing. The house across the street was recently painted dark blue-grey and has a black roof. It looks awful.

I think the color on the left- the drab beige-y/tan is dull. The one on the right is nice. Our house is light gray with white trim and a blue door. Almost all the houses by me are the original color of your house so it makes our house stand out a bit more and I like it.
My house has blue-gray vinyl siding that definitely reads a bit baby blue. We also have charcoal gray/navy blue shingles on the roof, navy blue doors, and all white trim everywhere else. When we bought the house we were initially like "oh my God it's so blue" but everything else about it was so perfect (except for the blue countertops - they are on their way out) and we figured that we wouldn't have to look at the outside all that much.
Now we both love it. We were discussing changing up the doors (may paint the front door yellow) but we love our little blue farmhouse. It's also highly recognizable on our all beige street.
