I'm out. She said I can try to file an appeal with the department. But because of the withdrawal last semester, not likely. She said I should try another program and that my clinical skills are fantastic. She also told me that she would write me a letter of recommendation for the Surgical Tech program at my school.

aw vicki. i'm so sorry i can't believe she wouldn't work with you for one point but would be willing to write a letter of recommendation. that makes no sense.

Fuck. I'm so bummed.
I'm so sorry
FWIW, I applied to Surg Tech too because it seems like a really cool job. It sucks though, I mean, your clinical skills are what matter more than the paper exams. *hug*

Listen, nursing school is a bunch of bullshit that you just try your best to make it through. I've had many friends fail and have to reapply the next semester. One was over a dosage calculation test that you had to make a 100 on and she made a 95.
Nursing school, in no way, predicts what kind of a nurse you will be. I'm sure you'll be an awesome nurse. Keep your chin up and go apply somewhere else. Don't give up on what you want to do just yet.
I'm surprised that they'd even consider letting someone who has a panic attack over a written test try to become a nurse.
I mean, I totally get that you can't control a panic attack and it doesn't make you a bad/stupid/irresponsible person ... but when other people's lives are on the line, that's not a good thing.
Fuck you. Stress and anxiety can happen to anyone regardless of profession. If nurses and docs weren't 'allowed' to have any mental issues, you would be shit out of luck finding health care. What do you think happens when we have to deal with tragedy on the job? Just smile and go on?
Good luck Vicky. I'm praying for the best for you.

No need for the "fuck you" comment.
In all seriousness, for those of you in the industry ... if someone was taking a test to be a medical professional and had a panic attack during it, would an instructor pull them aside to ask if they were ok or let them compose themselves? From OP's post I'm getting the impression that they just ignored her.

The girl should have been dealt with and helped, but I don't believe for a second that it hinders someone's ability to work in medicine.
For the record, my anxiety trigger is checking the mail. Like, opening the mailbox. And I've been alone with someone who stopped breathing not once, but twice. Zero of those people died.
I am so sorry. I would definitely appeal and I would include a letter from your doctor like you described earlier in this thread. I'd make sure that they know that the proctor had to speak to the girl during the test and that you went to the professor (even if it was after the weekend). Those, plus the fact that you ACED the final, should definitely help you. {{{hugs}}}
Are you fucking kidding me? She wouldn't give you a POINT when this situation was caused by a shitty proctor? Appeal the grade and the decision. Can you take a summer class, or a short class, to pull up your GPA? This is bullshit.
That is such bullshit. I'm so sorry. Good luck with the appeal.
That said, holy crap, I would have gotten up during the test and demanded to be moved. I have an attention disorder and get really distracted by little sounds during test taking, especially a repetitive sound like someone with a constant cough or someone tapping on their desk. I will become fixated on that sound and can't focus on anything else. I wear earplugs during tests because of this, and once even went to the proctor and asked him to get the person who was clicking a pen over and over and over and over to knock it off. No way am I going to let my performance suffer over something that can be so easily fixed. Speak up next time.
