Adding in the purposely left out info: She has an eating disorder and weighs about 70 pounds and is prone to falling a lot. (She's fallen twice today.) We live on a quiet block but no sidewalks and a bit of a hill. I sent my 7-year-old with her to "supervise" the walk since she complained that I never let her do anything alone with the kids. (I won't let her drive them anywhere.) She's basically not right in the head anymore, and I never know if I'm being cautious or ridiculous.
I heard her bitching about me on the phone to her sister about this, so I was wondering how it sounded without adding all that in.
At 70#, can she even lift the baby up?
Now, I'm with you. The additional info REALLY clears a lot up.
Well an eating disorder and not being right in the head aren't one on the same. I mean even if she doesn't eat much and is strong enough to navigate a carriage then I say its helicoptery. if she has other issues that give you pause then not so helicoptery. Kinda hard to give an honest opinion with such limited info.

Ok, wait now. This is like saying "Am I crazy for not allowing my husband to use our car?" And we're all "Um, yeah?" And then you say "Well, the other thing is, he's blind..." It sounds like your mother ISN'T CAPABLE of caring for your baby and you shouldn't let her leave the house alone with your kids.
And just so we're all perfectly clear, if she WAS a typically capable and trustworthy adult, there would be nothing wrong with carrying a cup of coffee while pushing a stroller.

This is completely different from the original question. The original question I had no problem with. THIS? Forget the coffee, I'm not okay with this without any liquids involved.
So is it bad that I do this all the time when I'm out walking and shopping with Eleanor in the stroller? I just got back from Target one handed because I was carrying a bag in one hand...and I was walking across streets and parking lots!
The mug not in a cup holder wouldn't bother me. I'd be happy that my mom was taking the baby off my hands.
ETA: Okay, I just read everything else. IDK, it sounds like hot coffee near the baby is the least of your problems. I'm so sorry your mom is going through this. It must be really hard on you. I babysat for a mom with anorexia and she was not rational. So I would say, make the rules you are comfortable with, but realize your mom is in denial about her stuff and will refuse to see your side.

Didn't read? lol
LEAVE ME ALONE! I posted before reading the whole thing.
