This is prompted by me plucking another grey hair out the other day...
1. How old are you? 2. What is your natural hair colour? 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well?
1. I am 35 later this month. 2. Medium Brunette 3. I have some greys - few enough that I can catch them because they aren't in my crown, they are 'hidden' below, and they are so wiry that they look different than my real hair. 4. I colour but not for the grey - I have ombre highlights in but they do nothing to cover the grey. 5. I think about 31 6. HORRIBLE 7. One, but she was already in her 60s. One of my friends in her mid early 40s is growing hers out and I hate it (and clearly didn't say it). My mom always coloured her hair, right up until she couldn't because she had cancer. Before she died she had this short salt and pepper crew cut and it looked so weird to see her that way.
I don't know when I will make the plunge to fully colouring to cover my grey. Not yet but clearly the time will come - I won't be able to pull stragglers forever.

1. How old are you? 31 2. What is your natural hair colour? Dark red/brown (in other words, a dark red that is not an orange based red, which is the red that I dye my hair to achieve). 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? A couple of stray grey hairs. One is particularly noticable because it is right on my part. I pluck it every time it becomes noticeable. 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? I color it, but not because of the greys. I find my natural color to be too blah. 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? Not really sure, as highlighted my hair from the time I was 18 until 3 years ago. I didn't start to notice the greys until the last three years, so I'm not sure if that's when they appeared, or if the blonde made them less noticeable. 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? My hair is all crazy ass wiry. My greys are the same texture as the rest of my hair. 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? Helen Mirren. Well, I've never met her, but I've seen her. Does that count?
Btw, don't pluck! Plucking is what makes them crazy and wiry.
Even my very first ones were like this, like the first two I ever found. What is the alternative??? I don't want to leave them but I am not going to colour my hair for 3 strays...should I cut them back really short?

I have a feww color resistant ones. I just leave them. I've learned that although they bug me, no one notices them.

1. 31 - will be 32 in September. 2. Dark brown 3. No. I thought I found one a month or so ago, but I didn't pluck it out and now I can't find it. It might have been a product of my imagination. 4. If I did have noticeable gray, I would definitely color my hair. I used to joke that I would never know if my hair went gray because I was always coloring it, but in the past 3-4 years, I stopped coloring it and it's my natural color. 5. Possibly 31. 6. The one I think I saw was wiry. 7. Yes. I am not that woman though. Most of the people who do seem to have very distinguished features... almost regal? IDK.
For people who have hair the is resistant to colour rinses...what does that mean? Like, they don't colour well, or you have to use a certain type of dye?
Oh and I will have long, dark hair until the day I die, no matter the cost of maintenance. I'm really vain about my hair.
Okay...I HAVE A FOLLOW UP TO THIS...add it to the poll...it is somewhat grey related.
Do you think that at a certain age women have to have shorter hair?
I have a girlfriend who said this once. Now that I am entering admin (becoming a vice principal) I am suddenly aware that very few women with whom I will be working have long hair - most of them are over 40 and almost all of them have short hair. My friend who made the comment is someone I cannot imagine with short hair. I am fine with a bob or with my hair long, so it is irrelevant to me, I will do whatever I damn well please, but I do notice that many women 'of a certain age' keep their hair shorter. There is also a woman at church who is in her 50s and has processed blond hair down to her waistline and it looks horrible but I would hasten to say that has more to do with the processing than her age.
1. How old are you? 29 2. What is your natural hair colour? dark brown 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? yes - a half dozen or so at any given time, where my bangs start at the crown of my head 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? I pluck them at this point - there aren't that many 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? 27 or 28 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? they're thicker and a little wiry 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? my fourth grade teacher - she was 40ish with long gray hair and had a bohemian vibe

HA!
And I've heard that sentiment before. Actually one person once said to me that she thinks anyone over the age of 30 who has long hair is too old for it. I was like, yeahhhhhhhhno. Anyway, I think that it's more important that people pick a style that is flattering for their face shape and they take care of it. I look terrible with really short hair, so unless it's absolutely necessary, I will never have short hair. I also take good care of my long hair and it looks healthy. I think for some people - and maybe even most - there comes a time when your hair is no longer healthy when it is long, but I think that comes more from damage and not taking care of it. Age might play a role, but I still think you don't necessarily have to have that awful short hair with no style that I see on so many women my mom's age. Again - some people look fabulous with short hair and I don't think short hair overall is horrible. I just think it only works for some people.
My mom has a bob sort of length which is the most flattering length on her. I think it's healthy and could be grown longer but for her face shape, styling needs, etc., it's a good length for her. And that to me is much more important than your age correlating with your hair length.
1. How old are you? 35 2. What is your natural hair colour? Dark reddish-brown 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? Yes, only a few. 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? No, not yet. 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? About 33. 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? Crazy ass wiry. 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? Yes, a couple. Stacy on TLC rocks that.

1. How old are you? 25 2. What is your natural hair colour? Black 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? A few. They are pretty noticeable because they grow in groups on the top layer of my hair and my hair is so dark. 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? Yes. 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? Early 20s 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? Usually wiry 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? Yes
3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? not a ton. a little patch of them right where I part my hair, then a tiny bit scattered about. Less than 5% overall
4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? my hair is colored right now, but more because I was feeling funky than because I wanted to color grey. It's bright red. I have a tendency to put in color in the summer.
5. How old were you when you started getting greys? I dunno. Maybe one or two here or there in my mid 30's. It's only become an apparent patch of grey in the last three years or so.
6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? they're the same texture as the rest of my hair.
7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? my mom does. she never really dyed her hair and kind of embraced the grey when she got it.
For people who have hair the is resistant to colour rinses...what does that mean? Like, they don't colour well, or you have to use a certain type of dye?
Well this has only been recently, as in this last couple of months, because I've been coloring my hair to hide gray since I was 22, but they just aren't taking the color rinses anymore. I had my hair colored in April and May and will have it colored again next Saturday. That's way more frequent than it used to be in the past. I have a color stick thing that I use for my roots inbetween hair appts. I WILL NOT BE GRAY!
My hair stylist does Crossfit with me and I was talking to him about greys. He bought 'just for men' pens for his wife and told her to just use that (her hair is almost black, she is Indian)...she doesn't colour her hair and she just gets a few in her crown, so he started her on that.
I am not looking forward to when I will need frequent colours - it isn't cheap as it is, lol

1. How old are you? 33 2. What is your natural hair colour? Brownish red 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? I've only seen one. 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? I've been coloring my hair (to brighten the red) off and on for several years, so I wouldn't say I do it because of the grey. 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? I noticed it last year. 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? It was wiry. 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? Yes. Her grey had a nice texture, and she kept it in a pixie bob that suited her face shape.

1. How old are you? 27 2. What is your natural hair colour? blond 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? none yet that I've noticed
7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? I know a woman who prematurely has beautiful, snow-white hair. She is absolutely stunning. In general I think it's easier for blonds to pull off, since the changeover from blond to grey is more subtle.
And no way in hell will I ever get a short old lady haircut. My long hair is one thing I freely admit I'm vain about. As long as the hair is healthy and well taken care of, I think longer hair on older women is beautiful.
1. How old are you? 47 2. What is your natural hair colour? medium brown - color treated highlights 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? only a few 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? I color it but not bc of the greys 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? 44 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? both 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well . older ladies (60 plus - yes)
2. What is your natural hair colour? Very dark brown
3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? Yes, quite a few. Not my whole head or anything, but it's noticeable if I don't dye it.
4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? Yes. I used to dye for fun but now it's necessary.
5. How old were you when you started getting greys? I noticed my first at 22 but only in the past year or two has it really been an issue for me.
6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? Most are the same texture as the rest of my hair.
7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? I know a couple do salt and pepper looks and it's ok. My mom went natural for a long time, but I convinced her to dye it after going to a family reunion where she looked older than many of her cousins who were way older than she was. She went gray early which is why I am too.

1) 33 2) brunette 3) I would say a lot but probably just moderate. 4) yes 5) 25/26 6) I guess similar texture? 7)
Ok, this is a women's issue, imo, becuase I work with a bunch of men in their 30s and 40s and they all are various states of gray and it's no biggie. My boss is 46 and completely white and he looks fine. But you know if a woman wants to go salt n pepper then she's considered fringe like an ole hippie or just a dork or Devil Wears Pranda vamp or some mutant. WE DONT SEE women who go grey and have "proper" hair dos in our society. We see women in their 50s and 60s and 90s with jet black or obviously dyed brown hair - that's our normal.
So I started a pinterest board (inspired by nitaw's hair board) dedicated to women who go gray and have a professional style to their hair. It's more inspiration for me so it's styles I feel I could pull off one day. What's hard is that some people do a gray for "fun" and still have dark roots and that is not how I will gray so I can't relate to that.
One day I will go gray - prob in my 50's. I think when I transition I will dye the lighter brown/warmer brown parts darker so you get that cool-tones salt n pepper thing going on.
For people who have hair the is resistant to colour rinses...what does that mean? Like, they don't colour well, or you have to use a certain type of dye?
you just leave the dye on longer . I used I think Garnier Nutreiesese (can't spell it ) now and it doesn't bother me to leave it on longer. You should also use a shampoo for colored hair to keep the color nice. Don't use dandruff shampoo unless you are trying to lighten the color. I use it on my ends to lighten them.
If you don't style your hair outside of a brush-through you might have to end up transitioning to using a large barrel curling iron to straighten out the wiriness. I can't help but wonder if the wiriness is more so just "higher maintenance" hair that you have to condition and style more often to get your look. Or if they are just fly-aways that you always had but they are just more noticeable now?
I do end up plucking a few grays around my "side burn" area if I missed them after dying but that area is hard to coat every single hair well.
1. 27 2. dark brown 3. a few, they seem to be multiplying 4. I'll probably start soon - I fully plan to color 5. they've just started showing up more recently but I think the first showed up last year 6. they seem to be like the rest of my hair at this point 7. there's a woman at work who has been letting her brown hair go grey recently and it looks really good
1. 32 2. Blond-ish. Definitely nit the white i had until my early 20s, but not brown, either. No gray. I'm guessing I'll go more white than gray. 7. Yes. But I've lived amongst the dirty hippie types. I think people would see beautiful gray more if women actually allowed themselves to be natural. Instead most people due so the only ones who gray in most cities don't give a shit about their looks.

1. How old are you? 41 2. What is your natural hair colour? dark brown 3. Do you have greys? A lot? Only a few? not a lot, but not a few, maybe 10% or so scattered throughout. Maybe more, I can't really see the back of my head. 4. Do you colour your hair if you have greys? No color. It doesn't bother me yet. I actually hope I go all grey rather than brown w/ grey mixed. I think the mix tends to look blah, but that all grey looks great. 5. How old were you when you started getting greys? Sometime in my 30s 6. Are your grey's a nice texture or crazy ass wiry ones? Crazy & wiry. I'm actually hoping they will give some life to my otherwise limp hair. 7. Have you ever met a woman who pulled off grey really well? Yes. A teacher from grade school went grey young and looked great. I've seen other women in person, but not that I know well. I think grey hair can look really lovely. I hate that it's considered a negative thing. My mom used to have these patches at the sides of her face/temples that were all grey and I thought it made her look like a superhero!
I think the thing with long hair is that it needs to be healthy and more of a "normal" color. If the hair is damaged it won't look as good and I think crazy colors maybe draw more attention to it and make it stand out.
I just started letting my hair grow out in the last year or so and dh joked that I'd have to get the old lady cut when I turn 30. I pointed him to Kate Middleton I don't look good with too short hair, really just under my chin is too short for my face type so I will probably always have at least shoulder length hair because that's what works for my face. Plus I already look too much like my mom and that's just even more noticeable when I have shorter hair, so no thank you.
The woman at work who is letting her hair go grey has longer hair and it looks really good.
