Do not in any way blame yourself. You are not at fault and it is entirely possible that he still would have had the reaction he did if you had waited until later to give it to him. If anything, you should be patting yourself on the back for thinking so rationally and logically while that was happening. Major kudos!
the research is all over the place with peanutbutter. Most people seem to say 12 months because of the texture. Our ped said wait until 2 because he had other allergies and our allergist wants to run a full nut panel first but normally I would've given it.
You are amazing. You handled that situation perfectly, better than I imagine I would. I agree with everyone else, you did nothing wrong. Hugs, Hugs, and more Hugs.

Your post yesterday seriously shocked the shit out of me, because I never, ever gave a second thought about giving peanut butter to Butterbaby. I mean, we don't give it often, but we certainly have before, and definitely before he turned one. Every time we get Thai take out, we get chicken sate sticks for the kids, and they're coated in peanut sauce and peanuts. The only thing I would never give a kid under the age of four-ish is actual whole peanuts because of the choking hazard.
And I agree with everyone else; you did NOTHING wrong, and holy shit am I ever impressed with how you reacted.

You know, you just reminded me that I've given Evan pad thai before at a restaurant we used to frequent a lot. Yikes, he never had a reaction and I never thought twice about it. So, and thedahliharpa too, should I also avoid peanut and peanut products since I'm still BFing?

Also, thanks ladies, for your input. We feel much better about it. It was going to happen no matter what unless if he never was going to have peanuts the rest of his life... which was pretty much implausible.

I don't know much about how peanuts transmit their allergic properties through BM. I think though that with the combination of the severity of his reaction and his mystery skin issues I would cut them. I would strongly consider becoming a peanut free household. It sucks but if you can live like a peanut free kid you will have a better understanding of any challenges it may present and it will be easier to keep E safe. A compromise would be only consuming peanut products, that you don't keep at home, at work or when you eat at a restaurant without E. I wish you didn't have to deal with this but I know you will continue doing an awesome job taking care of Evan. I second the poster that said there is a lot of good info on TB allergy board and we won't hold it against you if you moonlight over there :-)
