So this Saturday we leave for Cape Cod and it's supposed to take 6 hours. We plan on stopping once or twice depending on Violet so it will probably be a bit longer. What time should we leave!??! I don't want to sit in traffic. Is the traffic usually bad on Saturday mornings?
Going to the Cape on a Saturday morning in the summer is almost always sucktastic. No way around it. (Although better since they improved the rotary situation after the bridge). I guess I would take your time and not leave super early since that's what most do. But the season really begins next week do it will be busy,

You are going to hit so much traffic. I would either try to arrive near the Cape super early in the morning or in the evening, like 7 or 8. I don't think you will be able to avoid it, sorry.
Oh and we're going alllllll the way to Ptown sooo we are screwed I guess.
Oh no! Well at least you and all the gays will be partying it up! Seriously though, it is going to be so packed. I would reconsider when you were planning on arriving.

Are you sure it's pride weekend? We're going with a group of gay men (staying in our own house though) and I don't think they know about that! I think someone told me it's later in the summer??

It's the 40th anniversary of Stone Wall, so I think so. Could be wrong though. BUT, given the recent SCOTUS decisions I think it's safe to say PTown will be bumping this weekend.

Lol, you're probably right. We're staying slightly outside of Ptown I think. It might be considered Ptown but it's def on the border if it is.
Damn! I hate traffic. I don't know what to dooooo.
I'd leave NY as freakishly early as you can on Saturday. We're driving up to Maine on Friday and plan to leave around 8pm to avoid traffic. We left at noon on Friday two weeks ago and only made it 70 miles in the first 3h45m. We drove to the Cape on a Friday last summer, and it took us about ten hours to make it to the western edge of the Cape. Miserable!

OMG. I am having heart palpitations thinking about that. What time should we leave? Like 4am? Earlier??
What about leaving at her bed time and arriving in the middle of the night?!
cape traffic in summer. Noooo
then again being from NYC you might think it's nothing!
We can do that but we can't check into our house until somewhere between 1-3pm on Saturday. And it's possibly going to rain so we might not even be able to just hang out on the beach until then. Ahhh!
Friday night traffic will be pretty bad. I think you just have to suck it up and go with the flow.
It is going to be pretty bad but maybe the rain will deter the people who don't have rentals and were just going to go and stay with family.
We go down every other week and leave Sat around 10 and usually miss most of the traffic but it is only 45 mins from our house on a good day and we are right over the bridges.

Ok, so what if you wake up crazy early like 3 am. Wake up but hope she goes back to bed in the car right away. You'll get to the cape in the later morning where there will be a bit of traffic but not as bad at 11 or noon.
Is there any way you can pick up the car on Friday and do an overnight drive?
We are getting the car Friday, my H is picking it up on his way home from work. The problem is that we cant check in until possibly 3pm and we have our dogs with us so we are limited in what we can do. Ughhh!

you might need to take the ferry into hyannis. not sure if the ptown ferries are passenger only or car. i don't take the ferry so am not too sure on which ones are passenger only.
