I mentioned this in the "about you" poll, but I love my house's vaulted ceilings. They have exposed beams which gives the house a rustic feel. We also have a loft which I love; it's fun to stand up there and look down on the rest of the house lol.
I hate my kitchen, but we have the space to remodel it eventually, although it'll be a couple years before we have the money. I wouldn't really call that a 'regret', though, since a house with a big updated kitchen and all the other features I wanted would have been out of our price range.
1) The original woodwork. The built-in cabinet in the dining room, the solid wood doors, the rosettes on every window and door frame, the detailing on the porches.
2) Only 1 bathroom, and on the opposite floor from all 4 bedrooms.
Love: The natural light. Afternoon exposure was one of my musts, and this ones got it. I also could not ask for a better neighborhood. I was kind of meh on the house 5 years ago but couldn't pass up living in the hood.
Regrets: Sometimes our open floorplan is too open, the vaulted ceilings on the main levels mean that sound really carries. I regret we didn't replace the carpet in the front/dining room when we did the upstairs. We thought we might redo the laminate floors to wood and expand that into that area. It's where we spend most of our time, and lots of kid floor time.
love the location and one of my favorite features is the built in outdoor fireplace.
as far as compromises, there were definitely some since we bought in a very HCOL area. I wish we had at least 3 bedrooms and at least 2 bathrooms. I would also love a garage that we could actually park our cars in. oh well, I guess that'll be on the list for the next one.

1. My favorite thing about it is the location. Quiet street and backs up onto a wetland, 2 blocks from an awesome park, mixed income area, easy walk to lightrail and shops, easy drive to freeway.
2. We had to make some compromises, but no regrets so far.
1) I love just about everything in regards to my house! We moved last year from a house I loathed and ended up stuck in for 7 long years. My new house is a breath of fresh air! I think my favorite feature of the house is the bonus room/play room. The listing didn't even mention it when we looked and it was a very nice surprise. I also love that we have a pool!
2) I have no regrets whatsoever! Our house fit the bill with all of our must haves and had almost everything on my wish list, too! It's so nice to be able to say this because it is such an enormous contrast to what I would be saying if we were still stuck in our old money pit lol.
Favorite: All the space after condo living for years. As far as a specific feature, it's a tie between the kitchen & the front balcony. I haven't really used the kitchen yet since most stuff is still in boxes, but we'll sit out on the balcony after dinner most nights and it's lovely.
Regrets: We should have sprung for the additional recessed lighting in the loft and bedrooms. We'll do it eventually, but we really should have just gotten it over with during the building stage.
1) My kitchen. It's huge. Tons of counter space, built in appliances that are covered in cabinetry so much easier to upkeep, beautiful lighting, and a massive blue island that still makes me swoon when I look at it. 2) Do you have any regrets about compromises you made when you bought? I regret not doing stone on the walkway and porch and staying with the builder's grade concrete. It was put on the "we'll do it after we move in" and I should have know from the first time around that all the stuff on that list never really gets done because other priorities come into place.
