most of you are fuddy duddies. as gypsy said, this has been a 'thing', like, forever. if you have a good ass, then butt grazing shorts are a must. i'm happy to know that some girls have the foresight to do it right away instead of waiting until they are proper adults (b/c by then, they may ot have the body for it).
nascar has been a thing, like, forever too. that doesn't mean i have to embrace it.
asses go INside clothing. unless you're prince making a music video. that's the only exception.

All the youngin's here are wearing high waisted super shorty shorts with crop tops. They look adorable and I'm jealous lol ETA: I'm referring the college of charleston students so ages18-22 haha

are these the high waist shorts? We saw tons of ass in San Francisco a few weeks ago and all the girls were wearing these high waist shorts, I was a little wtf at it all.
I was looking around in Target on Friday and they had some of the shortest shorts I have ever seen. Lots of them. I thought to myself that the ass cheeks would hang out of them. Apparently it is the style. No way would my daughter wear shorts that short.
I noticed these in Target yesterday and stopped in my tracks. DH was all "keep going... you wore those in HS too..." but there's no way. I know I used to wear some short shorts, but these couldn't have been more than 4" long from top to bottom.
I see it all the time at the beach around here. I see lots of the high waisted shorts with the ass hanging out, it just doesn't look comfortable. What do you do if it's THAT time of the month? Tuck your string and pray?
DH who is typically very appreciative of such attire was all "WTF, where are these girls parents?" The worst part is when you see them dressed like that walking with their families. I would have been grounded for trying to leave my house like that growing up.
Oh and let's not forget the hot pink panties under the sheer white shorts. I saw lots of that yesterday. Blah.
I saw a girl wearing a cropped tshirt with high waisted cropped skinny jeans. Teenage fashion this year is just weird.
But isn't it just a copy of the crop-top and high-waisted cut-offs from the '90's?
I blame Miley
Or, y'know, the fact that fashion is cyclical.
Personally, I cannot wait for certain 90s looks to come back. The crop top thing? My beer gut isn't so excited about. But I will cry tears of joy when I can wear an unironic choker.

My 1 rule on shorts, are the cheeks covered? If so, good to go even if they are really short. Our problem is she is tiny but with a big booty and very muscular legs so it has been damn near impossible to find shorts that fit without falling off of her waist. She has to wear a belt with any jeans or shorts.

We're talking about these shorts, right? I'm not pearl-clutch about the length, but I will say the high waist looks SO bad on some girls. Others though? Yeah, they look cute. I'm sure tons of people will be wearing these in Chicago at Lolla in a few weeks.
Also, Willow Smith is trying to rock them in her new music video, but they are so ill-fitted. It looks like she borrowed Jada's shorts!
Yes, I see this a lot. My niece was visiting a couple weeks ago (with her dad) and had on these type of shorts. I told DH that there is no way that our daughter will be wearing shorts with her butt cheeks hanging out when she's in high school.
Also, I really don't remember this being a thing back when I was a teenager. I'm sure I would have noticed if everyone was wearing shorts with their butt hanging out.

My future daughter is going to be made fun of for being uncool because she will not be leaving my house in skimpy clothing. I don't care how pearl clutchy or prudish that makes me.
I have a serious issue on how teens and young teens dress; more so young teens. I guess even pre-teens now. Husband and I saw a girl who had to have been around 11 or 12 in some skimpy ass tank tops and short shorts. We both kind of looked at each other with a "why did someone let her out of the house like that?!" expression.
I'll sit next to you. My DDs will not leave the house with their asses hanging out. Nope, no way.
DD1 just turned five and I had a hard time finding a decent modest swimsuit for her this year. She wears a size 6X-7. It should not be so hard.

Unfortunately, this is a thing. And its not just the teenagers sporting them. A few weeks ago I was walking up the subway steps behind a woman wearing them. I almost tripped up the stairs because I was avoiding looking at her ass that was right in my face.

I don't have kids, but my husband, my mom, and I were at a kmart at the end of june. (My Mom left her bathing suit at home so I'm all "they're fairly cheap there, lets go!")
The dressing rooms were right next to the toddlers/girls department.
Triangle string bikini. For a toddler. I understand why a Mom would want separate bottoms, it makes changing the diaper easier/getting them to a bathroom easier, but usually the tops are pretty thick or a tankini top is used. But not a triangle string bikini. The bottoms had side string ties and the top had the triangles that were movable and not sewn into place. I clutched my pearls; majorly.

I was at some store (don't remember where) and I saw boy shorts style underwear that were printed to look like denim shorts (Pockets in the front & miniscule backside). All I could think was that I just know some girl will wear them as shorts. They were in the lingerie/underwear dept.
I want my 3 girls to grow up confident and happy with their bodies with great self esteem unlike I had. I don't want to be that pearl clutchy Mom, so I dont' think I would care if they wore something short and cute, but I am also not sure that wearing shorts with ass cheeks hanging out is something I would feel comfortable allowing them to wear especially for a tween/early teen. Hopefully this fashion will not have come full circle by the time I have to deal with it, lol.

This past week I was at a music festival and overheard a pair university students just tearing apart some mid-20s girl for wearing a pair of these (she was walking away with her boyfriend and while she was gorgeous and had a perfect figure it just looks so wrong). I was happy to hear some 20ish girls that weren't embracing the look. DH asked what the hell happened to her pants. She was also wearing knee high boots. It was so hot out. Ew.
I just posted about this very thing on my FB feed. I work at a college and this girl was complaining about how cold the classroom was. Of course it was cold! you're wearing a wife beater, flip flops and crotch-length shorts!
Andplusalso, the girls who wear crotch-length skirts? HTF do they sit down without flashing everyone?
THEY DON'T! I actually had a 20 something girl interview with me for a position in a skirt that short AFTER wearing a suit to interview with HR and my Director/employee. She flashed me. TWICE.
People! The teen girls are NOT wearing these shorts at home. They're sneaking them into their backpacks when they meet up with their buddies and putting them on there before they go out in public.
I'm lol'ing over the: "there's NO WAY I'd let my future DD out in those shorts!!" Of course you wouldn't, but it doesn't mean your yet-to-be-born DD will not try to get away with it.

Yah, but at 14?
I can agree that an older teenager, like 16/17/18, whatever. But 12-15, no.
Also, if I had the body/ass for it, I'd wear skimpy clothing....I might not leave my house but I'd wear them!
I wore the cutoff denim shorts with the pockets hanging out when I was 14. In 1974. When my butt was perky.
But I had no idea of the danger in doing that. But I wanted the boys to look at me. And they did. lol

I know it was a thing back when I was in sixth grade. I still shudder at the memory of my classmates (all the cute boys) seeing my mom bend over in her "hangin' hammies." Welcome back to the '70s folks.

I get not liking the look. I don't get feeling "happy" to hear other people "just tearing apart" another woman for what she's wearing. Why does this make you happy? What a bizarre reaction.
I'm scratching my head about this too.
Not liking tiny shorts or thinking they're appropriate is one thing. Taking joy in overheard cattiness is quite another.

"Tearing her apart" was an exagerration. I apologize. They basically were saying the same things people are saying here: "Those shorts have no butt" "I wouldn't wear that in public" "WTF Boots?"
I was happy in that I am not going to have to see the butt cheeks of all of the 20 year old girls, since at least these 4 weren't into it.

I graduated from high school in 2009 and I only remember one girl wearing shorts that didn't cover her entire ass. People talked, and not in a good way. Short shorts? Absolutely. But not booty-revealing-short shorts.
