Butt cheeks hanging out of shorts -- is this a "thing"?

We had a rule in school that your skirt/shorts had to reach your fingertips with your hands down to your side.

the rule at our local middle school (where 2 of my girls attend) is that skirts and shorts have to be fingertip length. now tell me where to find them, none of the trendy stores carry shorts that are school appropriate, so we are stuck dragging two very unhappy pre teens to the womens section of kmart!

oh and the other 2 girls, who are adults, they wear the butt hanging out short shorts

I've seen a lot of girls wearing what looks like volleyball shorts, I even saw one at the mall yesterday.  It's just seems like too much if you aren't hitting a ball around on a court.

Actually, there was pretty much no slut shaming or clique-y behaviour when I was in high school, because my [6'6" and intimidating] principal gave the harshest punishments he could legally give for bullying of any sort.  The comment was in a "what is she thinking" kind of way, because even at 17 the whole butt hanging out as you walk down the hall thing didn't seem like the most brilliant plan.   My friends and I were actually surprised that she made it through the entire school day like that multiple times because of the dress code.

Even when I was 17 and had a perky butt I didn't dress like that. I guess I've always been old.

It is without a doubt worse this year. I could wear my undies out and they would be longer than most of the shorts I am seeing.

This look is also paired with the pockets hanging lower than the shorts in the front. That one I do not get at all. I guess ass cheeks could be sexy, I mean they do sell lingerie that's high cut. No one needs to see your damn pockets (or the stuff in your pockets).
